A lot of it has to do with how you present yourself on a resume. Like if your resume shows nothing but your academic achievements at school then that’s basically instant rejection for a retail employer (unless they’re desperate) because that has zero relevance to them. If you have like extracurricular activities to show off that are people facing then that is more relevant to emphasise on your resume because those skillsets are important for the job.

Basically extracurricular activities are the key to getting you a job when you’re starting out, especially if the skill sets involved are related.

guys dw the job market is so rough rn w everything going on in the world... i think the key really is polishing and tailoring ur resume and cover letter for each role... and staying consistent. i'm working my 4th job now at 18 but i literally applied for HUNDREDS of jobs across indeed, seek, company websites etc. etc. (i started off w fast food tho)

does anybody know how to get a health-related job though e.g. medical receptionist, dental assistant, etc. i feel like they ALL NEED EXPERIENCE or a certificate but like how do u get work experience without the work đź’”

literally did this 2 weeks ago at maccas, got the job 2 days later and im now already finished my training shifts and im turning 18 in 2 months so no one listen to her
brotha the Maccas my friend applied to and got the job for didn't give her shit for 2 months, later she found out that they only roster kids 14-15 and barely give shifts to older ones. u just got lucky with the place, each Maccas is different. besides why would you willingly work in a shithole like maccas getting 15 an hour

fast food places will choose a 14 year old over you any day unless they desperately need people to cover shifts, why would u pay an 18 year old 20 an hour to do fries when you can get a 14 year old to do the exact same thing for 10.

literally i had my first job in a supermarket and it was pretty chill (had it for 2 years before i quit for hsc lol).. might be different in urban areas as opposed to my regional ones tho idk. cafes/bakeries/supermarkets etc are great to apply to as well I think, and you'll be better paid than fast food places
I didn't know getting a job was so hard. I swear like 70% of people in my grade have one
