I think swearing is great.
I did not say that my own vocab was big at all.
I am seventeen, who wants to pretend they're NOT juvenile at this age, really?

Thanks for the loser shot. Pity Im not insulted.
You should refer to postmodernism at least once in your post if you're going to keep this up.

Come to think of it, how are you going in postmodernism? My trial was fucked. I think I failed (<--lie), Ill probably lose my rank of equal first (<-- true, and I have that rank because like you say, Im a loser and don't leave my house. because you're totally right, aren't you just?) because half way through my essay I decided I wanted to argue that postmodernism is shit and really doesn't exist.

(You would know this because you just referred to my semi-serious argument about postmodernism, claiming it was 'nonsensical'. Well. Think about it. Postmodernism is largely an antithesis of modernism, although some retard theoreticians will claim it 'embraces' modern concepts. But like all phases, it has divergent possibilities, because the way we think is determined largely by looking at/for an opposite to find the most distant possible relation to the thought or phase, or anything really. So when you think of postmodernism like that, it really doesnt exist at all, also because like we all say about theories of society and literature and everything else: you cannot define It until youre well beyond it.

So then, you have to question, what is postmodernism but a series of progressive, strictly literary movements that began when we realised that all people could write books. What more is it than a bunch of writers doing the OPPOSITE to what is expected? Fuck, its almost linear with the rise of social history, which would mean that postmodernism is not the core of anything at all.

And when you consider also that its not abstract at all (that is, without the constraint of the modernist-search-for-meaning) you begin to question whether you can even label it anywhere up near theories of society or whatever else theyre calling it now; and you wonder if you can really even label it with a post at the beginning, because what exactly are we moving past? God? No. Authority over literature? No, because a recognition if a construct does not separate you from it.

And capitalism has NOTHING to do with it, if you define postmodernism within an entirely literature-based context.)

Well anyway. Youre just as shit as me. You wasted your FIFTH post trying to make me look bad. Its annoying. Say something interesting or relevant, or just go browse the non-school forums or something.

which NEVER happens. because it's not just literature. it's everything.

mandz, she's lying. she's going to run away with her #1 rank, while "chariots of fire" plays in the background. glory for gloria, etc. she's the best.

yes, it's ANTI-global. but it acknowledges it exists. it talks about how it has control over everything, does it not? even speaking on literature terms - all that 'blurring of high and low culture' shit, THAT is in itself about commerce, commodification. mass production.

Yeah Mandz, leave gloria alone, she's far and away more intelligent than you and it is not a show. Have a conversation with her and you'll actaully see that! She's also a very nice person, so don't attack her because you're insecure!!!!!

"postmmodernism" sounds exciting. :)

i do believe that 'respect you elders' would be a social construct, maybe you'd like to start there with your discussion of postmmodernism.

& then remind me again of how off topic i was, within a postmodernism thread.

finally, i do not squirm; even in my pretentious contempt for you i am calm and serene. accordingly so, perhaps.

(ps, laughing so loudly on and ON like that may put people off... just a note for future reference, as we, seemingly, are now giving them out.)

i have to give u all a round of applause for such entertainment!

Mandz is obviously insecure about her knowledge towards post modernism, and although i am not as intellectuaal as gloria and spin spin sugar, I am smart enough to realise that Mandz is making hypocritcal statements about being childish- and just as pm challenges the social constructs......

what defines a person as childish??? someone who fills most of 'its' post with immature 'haha's..or someone who isnt 'legal' but acts her age???? or even has an intellect beyond her years....?

think about it......

what is fantastic about postmodernism is that the knowledge you learn can help in subjects as diverse as vis arts, ext hist, and adv eng. i find the course and the wide reading fascinating,
if you're doing pomo next year, i firmly believe that it will make you a better student but certainly not a happier one
Postmodernism is a horrible concept- its so hypocrtical..it challenges authority and elitism yet it itself is an authority and elitist. Its only means something for bloody uni professors and useless arts students. Instead of solving the worlds problems its just adding to them with meaningless crap.

Jeez left-ism...whats pomo done to you? Burnt your house down and robbed your grandmother?
its LITERARY THEORY mate, its not running the bloody country, and causing gloabal bloody warming for gods sake!
lol, jk
its great you can get so passionate
i know what you mean, after studying it intently postmodernism can seem really empty, it has little to offer if your looking for solutions, or something spiritually uplifting

however as an english student, an avid reader a person who loves to write, its also very liberating
and necessary you cant analyse a book without knowing what genre it is, what rules it abides by, if it follows any conventions at all

there are moments where postmodernist jargo and theory is all very wanky and self-serving but theres also something very real there, that not a lot of people dont want to face up to

i do a different elective retreat from the global and we have to research theories post-structuralism blah shit blah

and since u guys obviously know a lot more about post-modernism i was wonderin if u could answer a question for me

is globalisation a realisation of modernism?
i.e technological advance and global communications the eradication of distinctive culture - like a kind of neo-imperialism or cultural-imperialsm

* if yes then is post-modenism a reaction against globalisation, commerialisation and the establishment of a global culture?????

your ideas would b muchly appreciated
p.s i found your thread very entertaining

hhmmm
interesting q
i guess as far as my *limited* knowledge goes, iw ould say that globilisation is a result of the modern world but not modernism, i dont really think modernism as such would celebrate the values of globilisation

but if someone would like to persuade me otherwise?? I'm listening

in answer to the second part, for sure pomo takes the shit out of our comercialised, coke-swilling, fries-munching global culture
postmodern texts, however don't despair of the modern age (as opposed to modernists) they embrace our fractured, wayward world for all its faults and inconsistencies, and it uses pomo techniques to play with these, highlighting its superficialities through existing only on the surface of things

phew.... i sound like my TEACHER
