You previously suggested pop up ads. I merely pointed out that they are an unnecessary evil, especially when there are more viable and user friendly ways.
That is one option, yes.

But not the only one.

I do agree, Pop-up ad's are very annoying and evil.

The leave, go...bye...au revior, cya later, ur not bound in chains to be here, you do it out of the goodness of your heart, and you can continue to do so, everyone will still have access to as easily as they do now. What would leaving achieve? Nothing.
Did you find the humour in the post though? Like, it's ironic that somebody who gets PAID to teach would get all warm and fuzzy from TEACHING people for free.

But protests when the site becomes "commercial", by asking people to pay for a service?

I chortled anyway.

Take a chill pill buddy. :)

Don’t use profanity in what is supposed to be a mature discussion about a relevant issue.

Gosh, I would hate you see how stressed and angry you would get when your partner buy’s a new toaster and you don’t like it and want them to take it back. :p

Get a nice glass of water :)

this nation has a bleak future with people of your caliber teaching.
Wait....you're saying the education department has actually implemented standards for their teachers? Since when?

Brogan doesn't cook. That is what his kitchen wench is for. He wouldn't care about the toaster, until she burnt the toast. Again.

I apologise for this mornings effort, brogan. =\

He's angry because you're being so absolutely idiotic that we have to drag you kicking and screaming to the point of the entire thing.

The BoS you know will stay the same.

The BoS Stas envisions will be stuck onto the top and will offer services for money.

It will NOT charge for the things you currently get for free.

It will charge for EXTRA things.

Jesus fucking christ, how hard is that to understand, were you born under powerlines or something? If you're this fucking retarded no matter how many notes you get you're still going to fail.
You have missed everything I have said!!

I know it will stay the same, I know they will have the free notes, I know all that.

Read my other posts about the issue.

Take a chill pill dude, don't get so worked up.

Read my other posts about the issue.
I read them. Quite frankly, nobody is interested in your attempts to provide a counter argument.
If you agree with the proposal, why bother.
This is not a school yard debate where we decide to be the affirmative or the negative. You don't need to rebut everything we say, just because.

The NSW Institute of Teachers has put out Professional Teaching Standards, amongst other things that teachers must abide by.
You lie, Wings! .. I can count on one hand the teachers I've had that have been of any use to my school career. I wonder whether the others were watching Home and Away when they were supposed to be reading the Teaching Standards.

So let me understand the socialist position properly.

1) BoS should make some money to cover server costs
2) They are not allowed to make this money by asking people to voluntarily pay for extra services such as a larger avatar.
3) They should make extensive use of commercial advertisement to avoid selling out to commercialism.
4) People who helped before will be unable to help in future because the new changes that don't impact on them will impact on them in an intangible fashion. I can really see how people with larger avatars will receive preferential treatment. It's so obvious
You missed the point! Bos is going to become commercial! The root of all modern evil! Making money is bad for your soul.

Where is Comrade Nathan. He is the biggest socialist monkey I have ever met, and even HE would probably agree with this.

Well that's good.

I'm glad you just volunteered to front up all the costs.

James, James, Tim, and that other one I always forget, never fear, Katie is here!

helper just to provide an opinion in contrast to your own:

I've receieved nothing out of it, and I could spend my time instead being a paid tutor, and making quite a lot of money for the time I spend helping others, but I don't.
The same situation

The forums here have always been a free service - with no discrimination against whose question gets answered, and even with the introduction of Premium Membership they still will be. Sure, some members will be paying for "extra features" but this does not mean that they will be the only members who we will assist and answer questions. There will be no discriminating against members who choose not pay for premium membership by refusing to answer their questions etc.
While I largely agree with you here, I can soon see people posting links to the "Premium content" in reply to answers, with the response to obtain a better answer then pay for it.

That being said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and can choose whether they wish to pay for premium memberships. All of the services available now will still be here for free. :)
True and the forums are what is going to continue to be the biggest advertiser for the premium content. So the better the answers there, then the more likely people are to obtain premium content.

The use of commercialism to pay for ongoing costs I have no problem with. I have been involved in too many voluntary organisations that then set up a parallel profit making branch and bled the volunteers dry. I have been on both sides of this and that is why I made my original post.

I also see in this thread the exact reason why I normally only read the topics in the forums I provide information in.

Also can I make a suggestion that it might be worth while giving priority access (bandwith or database access) to premium members.

Mr P. You of all people should know that I was being facetious.

Helper, I would hope that you will wait and see the trial period through. I think you may find it's not going to be the end of the BOS we know.

1. The date that "The Premium Service" will begin.
2. Paying $20 and already half way through the HSC and wont need the notes in 6 months is to me, a rip off, as I really only need to pay $10 (As we (Year 12) only have 6 months left.
3. Their are other ways to gain money.
1 - when I was sitting my HSC I seemed to use the entirety of the notes closer to the exams for revision. I assume everyone else will do the same. Also, I kept coming back to the forums and the site (and still do), so the April date would still enable me to get maximal value. I don't know anyone who uses others' notes to study during semester (only for the half-yearleys, and finals - and perhaps some assessments).
2 - in another post you stated that you had no problem with the $20 membership and that you think it's completely fair.

As I recall, Google Ad's are not pop-ups.

It's half way through the Year 12 HSC Year, so why should they have to pay the FULL amount when they wont need the note's for the full year, Maybe it should be $10 per 6 months, that will give people more options as to if they say...after 2 months, don't like it, they then wouldn't have blown a full $20.

Don't say $20 isn't a lot of money, to some Students it mean's something.
Don't forget that the $20 isn't just for premium notes. That is only one small part of being a premium member. You will get countless other things such as forum improvements, highly discounted study guides (physical copies from larger publishers), social events, careers information, etc.
