But as I already pointed out, it's a silly example and analogy since the ALP has said that they'll make up for the funding.stazi said:I was using UWS as a real-world example
Captain Gh3y said:The biggest injustice of all is that there's a real world.
And if you argue with them your suddenly snob/facist/racist.Captain Gh3y said:They're not socialist or capitalist or anything, just childish
I don't want to pay for my education so everyone else should have to
That's a rather cruddy way of putting it, but yes. The greater good.stazi said:so you'd rather disadvantage most people, just so you can advantage a small minority? wow, you must be a true socialist
wow that sounds totally fair and cost effective. In fact why didnt we think of that sooner?stazi said:No, what you were advocating was the opposite: the small minority, rather than the greater good.
"I have no problem with increased taxes": 25 mil Australians disadvantaged so that a couple of thousand of students can be advantaged
What percentage of Year 12 students go onto university?stazi said:No, what you were advocating was the opposite: the small minority, rather than the greater good.
But that's only taking ONE year worth of students. In the long run (particularly if it's more affordable), how many people would benefit from such a program, as a percentage of the population? I.e how many people GO to uni, or will do.stazi said:Not sure the percentage, perhaps someone else can share the stats. However, 50,000 students were eligible to receive a UAI last year. That's 0.2% of the population. So, 99.8% of the population would be disadvantaged
But has one percent of the country BEEN to uni? Or will one percent of the country in the future GO to uni?stazi said:ok, at any time we have 0.6-1% of the population at university (3-5 year degrees). Those are the people benefiting from it. That leaves 99% of people funding the 1% currently at university. This would suggest that at any time (even in 20 years) you still have 99% of people funding 1%
Do you really think that HECS is currently a barrier for people attending university? I am yet to meet someone who won't go to uni because it is too expensive.
