may seem like a stupid question, but was wondering, what is the purpose of studying for the exam if your mark is already determined by the assessment mark? say you are second and know the person coming third is studying REALLY hard, whats the purpose you studying, if you get there mark?

i always thought if you say came second, then you automatically get the second best mark? (even if you dont come second in the exam)

not necessarily ...

outliers in your school apparently do show in the actual hsc assessment mark

e.g. tom gets a raw school mark of 100%, dick gets a raw school mark of 81% and harry gets a raw school mark of 80%

in the actual hsc the top three marks are 97, 92, 85

hypothetically, tom's assessment mark is 97, dick's is around 88 and harry's is 85 (to reflect the small differences between dick and harry)

i guess its only fair to tom who worked his butt off compared to dick (no pun intended)

This is for your assessment mark, your exam mark is not moderated, your exam mark is whatever you get the the HSC exam.

It works like this...

(correct me if im wrong)

With school assessments all u shud be caring about is ranks, not marks.

Anyways heres an example

Say you come 2nd and your friend comes 1st

In the HSC, however, you get the top mark of 97 and he gets second of 89

50% of your overall HSC mark is formed by your assessments BUT ur assessment mark becomes his hsc mark because ur school rank was second and his hsc mark was second.

And his 50% mark becomes ur 97.

So in the end... you both get the same of 97 + 89

so 50% is ur HSC exam mark and the other 50% is someone elses HSC mark (or it cud be ur own if you get first twice or second twice etc)

Kinda get what im saying?:guitar:

And just as an extra note...
The confusing thing about the HSC is that ur biggest competitors during the year will become ur strongest allies before the HSC cos u will notice that every1 will help each other to boost everys marks to benefit themselves and every1 else...

weird system :S

There is no reason for studying for the HSC, tell your friends as well. If you and others go badly then my rank goes slightly higher.
