Industrie make some nice ones, though they've cut down now that its summer.

Abercrombie and Arvust also do some good plain shirts, though the latter employ interesting cuts.

From experience though plain shirts are always cheaper/of lower quality than branded shirts.

I'm sure if you went shopping and looked around you could find a place that has decent quality and thats not too expensive.
I always found it quite hard to find plain tee's but they're more common now.
Can't think of any places off the top of my head that stock them though.
Why do you want plain ones though?
Planning on putting your own logo/picture/name on it or something?
If you want to know if a shirt is going to last look at what its made of.
I think its synthetic fibres that go funny in the wash.
Cotton is generally best, but wouldn't buy from cotton on as their products are shit (generally speaking)

because plain is more versatile and looks better than ones emblazoned with logos.

Ahh, well maybe you don't necessarily have to get something plain.
You could get something that doesn't have a logo as the main focus?
Personally i ALWAYS hated going around with nothing but a logo printed on a top, makes me feel kind of weird, as if i've been branded or something *shrugs*
I'd reccommend where you could find good t-shirts but honestly the only guy i go shopping with is my bf and he wears button up shirts like ALL the time
