Quality vs quantity (1 Viewer)

Reflecting on my English trials, I omitted some paragraphs in my prepared essays because they didn't or couldn't answer the question, resulting in my essay being about 800 words (for both mod B and mod C). Should I have just included the omitted paragraphs do I don't get marked down for "shallow analysis" (too short) or did I make the right move?

you should of included them, if they had meaning behind them and weren't a waste, i'm sure you would of gotten better marks.

Yeah but that just screams out regurgitation. As I said, they didn't answer the question.

It's fine, most of my essays were 800 words or less. Quality my darling

Thanks. My essays were actually around 900 words but I put 800 for the sake of comparing quantity vs quality

You could always shorten the paragraphs that didn't work out so that they did work out. That is, don't use the quotes that aren't relevant but keep the rest. Obviously you would need to think on your feet and change a lot of the content (i.e. the effects/topic sentences etc) but if you were only writing 800-900 words you probably would've had time to do that.

That's what I would've done. Because if you originally had say, 4 body paragraphs and you cut out 1 or 2... It seems a little dodgy/unstructured.

And imo, it's quality>quantity but you can't have quality without sufficient quantity.

I've seen state ranking essays with just 1k words.
Quantity up until a certain extent then it's all quality quality quality imo.

800-900 words is a a decent essay length...

You can have quality/quantity and make enough points in these amount of words..

The most important thing at the end of the day is to answer the question and nothing but the question. This is one of the shortfalls of taking on a memorising generic essay approach-if you do this, you have to make sure you learn the skills to adapt your essay to literally any essay question, or alternatively, your trial experience seems to suggest that writing more prepared paragraphs would have allow you to have the flexibility to omit those that are less relevant to the question and answer the question in a more comprehensive manner.
