So for 2 unit mathematics, I am in 2nd place with an assessment mark of 89, while 1st place has an assessment mark of 90. So we're very close.

In the exam today though, (assuming the answers that were posted on here earlier today are right) it looks like I might have gotten a 92ish raw mark while 1st only got an 83ish.

Will this mean I will get his 83 for my assessment mark and he will get my 92? Will it drag my assessment mark down massively?

You're second, so you get the 2nd external mark as your internal mark. So yeah you'll get 83 assessment mark and a 92 external examination mark. Average those two and that will be your HSC mark.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

No.

The OP will get an assessment mark that reflects the difference between themselves and first so they would end up with a mark 1 - 2 marks behind first (will depend on the range of marks across the cohort, the total marks by the cohorts, the median and the mean as these will be used from the externals to the internals).

Other than first and last the other marks are NOT just a simple straight transfer of 2nd exam mark as 2nd assessment mark.

In what? Exam or school?
School assessment mark. Me and 1st were 1 mark apart for the assessment mark; me getting 89, him getting 90. The rest of the class got anywhere from 10-50%

The HSC exam though, it looks like I might have gotten the top exam mark with roughly a 92% raw mark, while the person who was 1st in my class thinks he got 83ish for a raw mark. The rest of the class probably ranged from 25-60%.

You assessment mark will be a bit below the highest because its about the gaps between students so in the case you are much closer to the first student. Its like a rubber band, you put dots on the band then stretch or shrink it depending on the external marks comparing to the internal marks.

Your assessment mark will therefore be around 91 raw, and your exam mark will be 92 raw.
