1- I hated HSC Chem with a passion because of its focus on societal impacts etc, but I think I'll be more interested in uni chem that focuses on, well, actual chemistry. Would I be better off doing CHEM1101, or 1901?

2- How do I apply for the maths SSP? I remember seeing a form when I was looking into it a while ago, but I can't seem to find anything now.

3- Any recommendations for choosing my elective? I had a quick skim through the list of units and couldn't see anything that stood out to me.

Enrol in MATH1901 and MATH1902 first. You have to wait til your first MATH1901 lecture in Week 1 which will direct to you to information for enrolling in MATH1906 (SSP).

Oh also, we only have to enrol for the units we're doing this semester right? My friend wanted to know and I wasn't absolutely 100% sure.

IIRC, you enrol in units for both Semester 1 and Semester 2.

While it's recommended to have your plan for your units of study ready by enrolment, you can still change those units by yourself through MyAdmin (online) until the census date.

You'll need to enrol in both semesters.

With regards to chemistry, give CHEM1901 a go and see what happens.

There's seperate census dates for each semester isn't there? Just not sure whether I'd want to do chem or computational science in second semester.

Just read in the stuff USYD sent me that they recommend only doign 24cp of advanced units per year and I'll be doing maths and physics. I'll see.

Screw the recommendation. It's worth a try to see if you can cope with it or not at least for a week or two before the census date. All but one of my units of study in my science degree were advanced units and this is not uncommon.

Anyone had experience with INFO1103 (Introduction to Programming)? I'm tempted to do that as my elective since I haven't seen anything else that really appealed to me.

Yeah my friend in 2nd year this year did INFO1103 and he said he really enjoyed it - they learn Java and it was generally an easy course if you kept up with the coursework. The hours are good, 2 lectures and 2hr lab per week, compared to a 7 hour physics load...

I'm picking INFO1103 (and PHYS1901) as well for science units.

What're you doing for your other elective?

I'm doing BSc/BA and my units are:

MATH1901, MATH1902, PHYS1901, INFO1103, JPNS2621 (Japanese 5), ASNS1601 (Introduction to Asian Studies), but ASNS1601 clashes with MATH1902 so I might have to drop it and do it next year :'(

Yes yes, but enrolling in MATH1901 for now. Go for 1906 when we can.

If you are that keen about maths then it should be fine. Just try it out anyway.

Slightly off-topic question, but would a Bachelor of Science (Adv. maths) look better than a Bachelor of Science to employers> I'm lazy and not really keen bout maths (although capable) so i just wanna do normal math units. plus ill prob do better and get a higher wam or something. fark, i was so fed up with 4u maths by the end of hsc :(
