if it asks for your comments and views on the issue then you can use I believe etc
but if it doesn't DO NOT use them
the questions are not asking for your views, if you use I and we that's implying it's your view
even if does, i would advice against it

not talking about creative stories.....

If it's an essay, sometime I use "our", but nothing like, "I believe..."

since i cant create new threads.. i'll ask here

i have difficulties connecting each text together, how should i do it???

i've read alot of example eassys, between texts, they only mention the connection in the beginning paragraph and then started talkin about another text without reflecting back to the previous text anymore..

is there any easy ways i can do this??

link through the concepts or the techniques - so, for example, if more than one composer uses the same technique to achieve a different result, than the discussion of that can be your link. it doesn;t have to be one sentence, though, ideally, it should be :p

In my trial I had trouble with that, so I went back to my prescribed text and tried to find as many issues, no matter how small, that were also in my related material. I mention about three points in each of my related material texts, and at the end of some of the paragraphs (generally 2 of the three), I try to make a link to my prescribed text. For example, my prescribed text explores the issues related with "illusion" and "reality". Similarly one piece of related material does as well, so I just expand on that.

If you just mention it at the beginning, remember to mention it at the end as well.

I don't know if that's helpful at all.

Do NOT use "we" and "I" unless they ask you, "How has YOUR understanding of journeys been shaped by the following texts blah de blah de blah."

If you really need to, instead of writing, "by the sustained motif, "we" see"
write: "by the sustained motif, "responders/viewers/readers" see

the only time i would ever use I is in the creative piece in AOS, when its a personal reflection. Otherwise you are just shooitng yourself in the foot

The marker's don;t actually care what you beleive
thats why if you want to express your own theory, you just dub it under some pseudo name.

or by the sustanied motif 'one' can see
or by the sustained motif it becomes evident

there is always a way around it

I have been reading many responses from the study guides and as examples, many of them are using the informal tone to their writing. Not so much in the essays, but definately in speeches and letters etc. The speech examples are extrememly personal in there responses! Its all about "I" think this and "I" studied that - Instead of talking about the entire text reference in general and how it effects an AUDIENCE, not just you. Maybe markers want to hear our opinion after all? I'm pretty confused though! HAHA

yep. if they ask anything about your understandind, development or reshping of understanding of the texts, they want you to tell them what YOU have learnt and HOW. so it is a personal respose because its about how the texts have challenged your thinking :)

no, just because they've asked for your understanding etc. doesnt mean that you use first person. its ust common sense - think about it, if you are required to analyse a text or texts, which is what you're doing, what else are rthey going to say - "How have these texts developed the understanding of the concept of journey of the person sitting three rows up and 2 seats to the left of you?" how ridiculous. the 'personal' aspect of your response comes through by your level of engagement with the text - basically, how you anlayse it and the meaning that you extract from it and choose to write about. Do not write a formal essay in first person. "I" should never, EVER be seen in an essay unless it is a part of a quote.

Have a look at last year's exemplar. It asked "YOUR" understanding of powerplays. The exemplar (that lucky bastard) started his essay with: "MY understanding of powerplays have been shaped....."

I guess you should avoid it, especially in repeated use. But don't worry too much about it. I'm afraid of my quality rather than if I use my opinion! lol

Yeah I never use "I" in my writings until I have read through all these responses using first person. Theoretically, essays are the most formal writing of all, thus the writing should not encorporate the first person technique. I hate not knowing what text type we will be getting! ARGH!

yeah, thats the worst part. im fine with essays, they're easy. i just hate remembering al the rules for the different text types and i am hopeless at actually writing feature articles. i know HOW to do them, but they never turn out the way i want *sigh* speeches are okay though.
