well basically lets say we a person who is ranked
3/3 and another doing the same subject ranked 236/238

in the end are they the same thing? like both would be considered as last.
do smaller no. of ppl in a class have an advantage over the 1's with more ppl? or are they practically the same thing?

They wouldn't both be considered last because 236/238 isn't last.

It's always your position compared to others. Smaller classes won't have an advantage over larger classes or vice versa.

Only your marks compared to them will be affected. If you come 236 internally but 1st externally with a mark, let say 90, you still have to suffer the mark of the 236th externally with, let say, 75. So ranking does matter. The less people, the better because your marks won't be affected too much by other fellows while if you are ranked in the middle of over 300 people, wow, you'd better pay lots of attention to everyone else's results to have the most exact idea of your results.

I've never understood the reason why your marks are affected by others in the class - say if you're dragged down because the rest of the class doesn't put in as much work. It doesn't seem fair. Does anyone else feel that?

The system isn't perfect, just the way it is. Work hard at both internal assessments and your exam and let the mofo's in the offices worry about the rest. Learnt the hard way.
Cheers.

Instead of worrying about this sort of shit, just knuckle down and study. Serz, stressing about what could happen takes away from your ability to study effectively, which channels through to marks, which is going to bite you in the arse more than your rank.
It should be mandatory to read this kind of thing before you can make a new topic in this forum...

It matters more on the ability of the class. My maths ext 4 class has 4 people in it, but even the person who comes 4/4 is still really smart and is gonna get a good result, they are just up against people who are slightly better than them. The thing is, if your coming near the bottome of a class of 238, chances are that not everyone in that class is super smart (except for at crazy selective schools).

The less the better. Though you come last but you're the bottom of a bunch of smartie, you'll end up way better than the middle of somewhat 100.
