Do different practice essays to questions that have common themes and/or concepts

Mind maps and practice adapting to different questions. Further, reciting or writing the essay out constantly may also work.
If you don't memorise the essay word for word, then try memorising a lot of quotes and good words to use and then selecting quotes based on the question. How I memorised was to print out my essay and just reading it aloud while walking many many times over, and eventually absorb the essay. Also try reading the first sentence over and over, then covering it and testing yourself, and once you know it, go to the next sentence. Good luck!
