Ooh, I love stationery discussion. :p
I use 2-ring folders because I just find it hard to open 3-ring ones. :) Maybe it's just me but I've had bad experience with 3-rings, notably snapping the rings shut on my fingers.. Ouch.

4 ring. its stable, 2 ring rips easy, and 3 ring is a bitch to punch. got my folder hole punch from officeworks, the grey one again. like a buck or something.

nancy, u missed out 1 important factor about ring folders

RING or D!!!!!!!!!!

D is soooooooooo much better.

4D is the ULTIMATE!!!!

u only use 2rings for filing stuff (stuff that you won't open often)
stuff rips and tends to fall out.
but if u use 4D....

I use A4 exercise books for my written work, display folders for my sheets, and a 2 ring binder folder for my study notes which has all the subjects in one

I use 2 ring binder. So much easier too punch, but it isn't really stable.

My older sister has a 4 ring binder, except she doesn't know how to punch the holes.

buy 2 2hole punchers

put the first of them on the top two rings, and the second on the bottom two rings...then just punch as normal

i think this should work

I use two of those - one for prelim work and one for hsc with dividers for each subject. I wouldn't take this folder to school though - too bulky and it breaks if you drop it. I only put in the relevant things like syllabus points, worksheets, assignments etc. I don't put homework in there so l just chuck it out.

At shcool l use a 2 ring binder for biology only. For maths l use an exercise book (lined, not graphed) and for English and Hospitality l use A4 Files.

I also have a 5-subject notebook which is EXCELLENT if you want to quickly write down notes or ideas for an assignment. Its also really light in your bag.

EDIT: My friend has gone through two of those arch files since year 12 started (last term) and she used to bring it to school everyday and put in EVERYTHING from her classes. She claimed that when she got home she'd empty out all the things she didn't really need. I'm sure her arm was dead by the end of each day though. Now she has one 2 ring binder for all of her subjects and carries that around all day.

why? I always put it in my bag. If you carry it around your arm goes dead.

my arms never went dead from carrying my folders

if you put it in your bag, they tend to get thrown around (well not necessarilly, but most people dont take a lot of care with their bags) and this can screw the rings up.

I hate carrying folders, but I prefer carrying it than putting it in my bag. My bag is heavy already, and I don't want to get a bad back. My arms don't go dead, you get used to it.
