Earlier this year British Soldiers' Royal Anglian Regiment had their homecoming parade in Luton, England.

Radical muslims protested, and called them Butcher of Basra, Murderers, death to infidels (non-muslims) etc etc

Outraged White Anglo-Saxon British citizens fought back

They were charged with racism etc.

English Defence League members (anti-muslim terrorists) protesting against muslim radicals in UK.

Do you think we should establish Australian Defence League to protest against that lunatic self styled Sheikh who harrassed the familis of dead Australian Soldiers?

I think we need proper freedom of speech back, to be honest.

Which means both sides get to say whatever they want

Those blokes look like they're wearing groin protectors over their mouths.
Goes to show they really do talk shit. Any sort of extremism is loathesome.

Extremism is a very important part of open political discourse dude.

You need to have the different viewpoints clearly defined.

Pfft.
If extremism results in corrupted people and corrupted regimes, begone with all of it. It's not 'integral' to the politics of the world, and we could certainly make do without the Christian KKK kunts, Jewish Zionism, and Islamic fundamentalism. Kthx.

Absolutely. Obviously in this case, these extremists are nutters.

But often labeling people as extremists is used as a way to silence those who are ahead of their time, and who are eventually vindicated.

Remember, at various stages in history it was considered extremist to say that women should be able to vote, that we should abolish slavery, or that the divine authority of the king could be questioned.

Just shows the contradictions of the modern state. On the one hand, there's no greater duty to a society than to serve in its armed forces, defending the land and people that you love. On the other hand, you have such poison in society that questions the value and quality of this protection - that labels these selfless warriors as "butchers" for serving in this magnificent way. It's a toxic media age with no love of truth, where love of place and the people in that place is constantly challenged and made impossible by the realities of a dirty globalization.

Id be outraged at the protestors too.

This is when all the scum from either side comes out of the wood work, they are all stupid people who cling to their race, nation, beliefs to find strength because individually they are all pure FAIL.

The soldiers are butchers, though.

Idiots who have been convinced there's something noble in fighting someone else's war for them.

You could see some nobility in it if Britain had been attacked, and they were defending it.

But these men are just over on the other side of the world murdering civilians for no reason.

Real soldiers don't need convincing. They only need orders.

I'm as anti free speech for the sake of free speech as anyone but I can't say there is anything here that shouldn't be legal to say. Violence is a different matter of course you get violent you get arrested but these aren't conscripts these are people who volunteered to enter a profession which included killing when they did so they accepted the praise and criticism that comes with it. Likewise if somebody makes a bold political statement others have a right of reply.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press;
It is the Solder, not the poet who has given us the freedom of speech;
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us freedom to demonstrate
It is the Soldier-- Who salutes the flag; Who serves beneath the flag; and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protestor to burn the flag.
