Local students are more likely to take part in university activities than foreign students. There are a great deal of full fee paying foreign students in Australian universities.

Therefore, this move is beneficial to Local university students.

ITT: butthurt people.

I don't think anyone was denying that.

Why should International students have to pay that shit also? Do you even go to university?

*Therefore, this move is beneficial to a small minority of Local university students

Communism is a society where each one works according to his abilities and gets according to his needs.

No, its not, read Das Kapital, vol 1,2,3.

They save him $600/year in compulsory student union fees.
I know the article quoted that figure, but I must say, I've not seen it as the fee anywhere.

Which unis charge $600 for their union fees??

I suppose that it DOES create an incentive to get involved with campus groups, to get your value. Plus it mixes rich bright kids with more modest bright kids, and I think that's good.
Yer actually
I think that government knows best. It is sending a message that you will not be a fulfilled human being without a rich balance of social organisations, and I fully agree. Actually I think that this would be pretty important in socialising youth into a broader community mindset, rather than -study for me-get degree for me-make money for me.
It's like taxes for kids, where we can see the direct application of our funds and each individual has a pretty good chance to successfully alter the use of those funds, if it means so much to them
I applaud the initiative

I dont know about other unis, but I think that ANU is pretty well segregated atm. Asian computer labs, muslim study areas, etc. Without this proposal, there is chance of ethnic tensions which arent Australian
Serious, i'm so on board
