well I think the admins have to gather the data first and then fix it all up.

as cherry said, they do need to gather data etc. from the 2004 hsc, so I'm guessing probably just before june, in the first half of the year (hopefully) :)

what does SAM involve?
how does it work?
Doesnt it just involve matching aligned marks with scaled marks and then adding them up to give an aggregate out of 500?

no no, I know for SAM, but as I was scrolling down I saw (in big black bold print) "Only (ONLY!!!) 289 Days Until the HSC", so I was kinda freaked out cos it's only January

But I think Lazarus said they use linear interpolations to "fill in the gaps" using the Tables published by the UAC e.g. they give data like 45 aligned scaled to 44 and 38 aligned scaled to 35 - I think it's a matter of filling in those gaps for each aligned mark in between + using the other table to find the corresponding UAI for each aggregate. I guess he also needs to gather real figures (from students) to make it more accurate though.

SAM 2005 probably won't be available until March.

It might be able to do a little bit more though. :)

Why do you need to use "sam" so soon anyway? To work out what sort of raw marks you should be aiming for?

hmmmm June? that seems really late to me
I was just making an estimated guess. The only thing I was definitely sure of was that it would come out before June, I just didn't know for sure when

What more would SAM be able to do??? - I can't think of anything, except maybe estimating correlations between raw marks and aligned marks...
Any clues that you can give us?
