Is there scaling of marks before a GPA is calculated?

If there isn't doesn't that mean I can do like really easy subjects and get a really good GPA so I have a better chance of transferring?

Isn't this unfair?

Depends on the uni and subject I think. I got scaled down pretty harshly in one of my electives, the arts faculty at USYD seemed to have problems with everybody doing well.

I am unsure whether or not there is actual scaling. But in answering your second question, I'd think yes you can do "really easy subjects and get a really good GPA so you have a better chance of transferring" (ignoring other factors..) . Since the grade distributions shows that some subjects have higher percentage of students getting certain bands.
Unfair or not..depends on your view.
