yeh can someone post up the (estimate) cutoffs for various percentages?

?/120 = 50% Aligned
?/120 = 60% Aligned
?/120 = 70% Aligned
?/120 = 80% Aligned
?/120 = 85% Aligned
?/120 = 90% Aligned
?/120 = 95% Aligned
lol/120 = 100% Aligned

I'll take an estimate at the top brackets.

118/120 = 100%

106/120 = 95%

85/120 = 90%

a friend of mine last year says he got around 110 raw (he thinks) and his mark was 97. I think the standard will be similar if not higher this year.

i actuallu thought the standard would be lower this year, namely because the paper was longer, and unlike lat year, they had a lot less harder 3unit style questions....

well i mentioned this before, but i think in the top range, you will need a higher mark, but the average student will probably have a lower cutoff :)

So does anyone have a rough estimate on what kind of raw marks will give you a band E4 or E3 etc. I think i got around 90/120, round what band would that give me?

U would get E2, since it would be just a pass.

Well i got 81/120 and with that i got 79% and i got E3, u will get E4 since u will be scaled to +85%

The process you're talking about here is "aligning" not "scaling".

Giles Gardam (1st in NSW) reckons he got 120/120 = 100 exam mark.

My friend Sunny Wang (9th in NSW) reckons he got 118-119/120 = 99 exam mark.

According to Terry Lee's solutions I should have got 118/120 as well but since I didn't get a state ranking I'll say I got about 116-117/120 = 99 exam mark.

As for how exam marks were scaled in the calculation of UAI, check the scaling report.

If this were any other year, you can probably call whoever getting 118+ a freak (and in most past years top person only gets around 115+, mind you), but not 2007. When you put the least challenging exam paper since the "new" HSC together with the most academically competitive cohort since the "new" HSC, this is what you get.

I see that this thread has all but died, but I just want to add that I don't actually reckon I got 120/120. I'm curious who your source is ssglain ;).

'According to Terry Lee's solutions I should have got' 120/120 (trusting my memory a few hours after the exam too). But despite my being incredibly paranoid and overly thorough (according to my teachers as well as me) I have lost marks for working at school. No one has got full marks since Anthony Henderson in 1993, so although the marks are meant to be top secret I suspect that if I did get 120/120 word would have got out.

It may also interest you that Anthony Morris got at most 119 in the exam but 100 for the exam mark.

Wait a second, i always thought that being on the distinguished achievers list meant that u got 90%+, now i'm hearing that it's 85, then 86 which further confuses the matter.

It's like Vincent Mok in 2003 who said that he 'bombed' the test, but ended up getting E4/band 6 for maths ext.1 and ext.2. Can someone explain this?

which freak gets 118? is that even possible
1993 was said to be the toughest or second toughest 4u test and guess what the top guy got- 120 as a raw mark, giles last year got 118.5(no jokes) and stephanie wang before him got 118. So yes, it's definitely possible but since 1993, it's been tough to get 118 let alone 119 and no1s got 120 as far as im informed by reliable people.

He can't get 0.5 mark in HSC. They don't reward half mark in HSC. He might have got 118 or 119.
