I hate when BOS says it was an 'easy' subject... it is not!!!!!!!! :'( Only a couple of ppl made the band six last year and this year only less than 8000 ppl across the state are doing it...

scaling has to do with how well the SDD canditure goes rather than the course itself. To work out how well the SDD is scaled it is based around the average marks of all the canditure in all the other subjects they do.

ie. If everyone failed the SDD exam, but the canditure average in every other subject was 90% then it would get scaled to the max.

Last year ur hsc mark for sdd was scaled down if u had anything below 82.

and only 8 ppl got band 6 out of like 3000

so yeh lets hope more smart arses did sdd this year to make the canditure better.

Yeah we'd hope so.... software is definitely not easy... but I had an interview with the principal a while ago... and she's like "software is the hardest subject" but I was like no 4 unit, 3 unit and Physics are about a million times harder

she was right.

my sdd teacher(whos a smart guy) said sdd(last year) was scaled the 2nd best, behind 4u maths. (this doesnt count specialist subjects, like wacky languages which 3 ppl in the state do)

Yup... it doesn't matter whether it's a hard course or not, the scaling will be determined by the 'strength of competition'.

i.e. whether the students taking the course tend to go well in all the courses they take (or not).

I think generally people who do SDD are pretty smart. I mean half the people in my class are the 4 unit maths, chess club, computer programming competition kinda people. I swear there's a bunch of guys in my class who completly fit the geek stereotype you see on television, the whole nerd laugh, "let's spend all our free time talking about maths", "argue with the teacher about some minor technality of a concept in the textbook until the teacher breaks down."

If this is the standard of the SDD candidture, how come only 0.23% of people got in band 6 last year?

I agree. Most SDD classes aren't the working people.

And even if they once were.....they've slacked off, finding the networked Hearts too attractive.

No don't look at me like that, I work in class. :D

SDD scales really well for me, coz in my SDD class, every one except me and 2 other guys, do 4 unit maths and are in the top 2% and shit, one guy always wins state maths comps etc...
so we get scaled really well...
to do SDD @ my school min req. are 3 unit maths

the req is 3 uni maths?!? thats totally f$%#$d! Like seriously... maths helps thinking wise, but whether your good at maths means little, unless of course what your developing requires lots of mathematical expressions/knowledge.

in my class (SDD) i was the second worse at maths (only did 2U and was quite bad at it) but i finished on top in yr 11 and 12, and was 7th statewide

it only scales well assuming you land in the top state percentiles..

most ppl here on bos get up there anyway. so nothing i guss to worry about

Sounds like heaven. :D
I hope they all went to UTS, as I've only been able to find one other hardcore geek. :(

I gotta disagree with the guy who said all sdd class contain major nerds...

My class has 2 pplz avg over 90% assessment wise...
2 people who have trouble understanding the concepts (such as arrays etc..)
2 people who wouldnt know vb if it bit them in the ass
and 2 people who have trouble finding their way to class...

so i can understand why only 0.23% were band 6

my sdd teacher last yr told our class, "never be disappointed with ur raw trial marks (u dont know ur raw hsc marks) cos u get scaled good. even uni students doing computing find it hard to do some of the algorithms asked."

Well at our school around 50 people do Software....
Thats alot of people...
40 of those are doing "accelerated software" which are year 11's doing Software...
That could be part of the whole gay software scaling as most arnt doing another HSC subject...
I could be wrong
