A 65-year-old man comes to you with complaining of abdominal pain that is
persistent but not extreme. You run some tests which reveal that he has cancer of the
pancreas. The man has just retired from a busy professional career, and he and his
wife are about to leave on a round-the-world cruise that they’ve been planning for
over a year. They begin the consultation by telling you how much they have been
looking forward to this holiday and how much he is looking forward to retirement.
He goes on to say how since he has slowed down, he has rekindled his relationship
with his wife and they are now closer than they have ever been before. He also
admits he is somewhat worried about the pain. The man seems to have a lot of plans
an unfinished business he is determined to achieve. You pause and then decide to tell
them the results the day before he is due to leave.

He decides to go on the cruise though does not tell his wife. When they return, the
man comes to your surgery alone and tells you that he does not wish to go through
with treatment even though he knows his wife would want him to give it a try. The
wife attends the surgery the following day and the receptionist asks why she didn’t
come in with her husband. The wife appears to be confused and the receptionist
quickly changes the subject.

Having discovered her husband has gone behind her back, the wife would:
a) Feel betrayed
b) Question whether she was providing enough support for him.
c) Be hurt that her husband felt he could not openly tell her what he was feeling
d) Be concerned

The answer is D. Why isnt it B?

It is D because we cannot extrapolate away from what is given.
It is shown that the wife is supportive and would want him to go through treatment and would help him when it says that the husband knows the wife would want him to go through treatment. So, it can't be B
And it's D because she would feel concerned about her husband's health as he came in without her and she would be questioning what is wrong with him and would be worried.
