Just read it, it shouldn't be called a life sentence. Theyn should call it an "eternity of damnation"

He maintains he didn't do it, it's all a conspiracy against him and eventually the "truth" will prevail. He's a sociopath, he feels no remorse. Good article on him in a Good Weekend from a few months ago that I mentioned in the other Sef thread.

you read that too? it was a good article. it was after reading it that i mad up my mind about whether he was guilty or not. it also showed his character and how her premeditated the murders. i thoughts are: 'eternal damnation'

He should have thought of the penalties of his actions when he thought of killing his family.

I think he deserves life imprisonment. What he did was cruel, selfish and greedy.

Even if he is truly sorry, he still has to be punished
yes he should be punished, but for life? wouldnt that engender an attitude of revenge more so than reformation? imagine what kind of world we would live in if we all taught our children to return every misdeed with another, that's not justice- it's vengeance. the focus of the corrective facilities should be just that...to let people reflect upon their misdemeanours and correct their actions...not through tit-for-tat but education programmes and increasing social awareness.

think about it this way, look at israel and palestine at the moment. irrespective of who precipitated the violence in the first place, they're caught in an endless cycle of violence because they are not willing to compromise.

as gandhi once said, "an eye for an eye will make the world go blind"...

Even if they did show true repentance, its would probably be all a act anyway..
plus imo I think he does deserve to die in prison....
Actually prison life is still too good for him... he gets a place to sleep and gets fed.. he dosn't even deserve that ....wait.... he dosnt even deserve to live...he deserves the death penalty for what he did to his family..once a sick mind.. always a sick mind...
unfortunately Australia no longer has capital punishment...

If I was hiding in your house waiting for your family to come home and then stabbed them and bashed the living crap out of their corpse...and after the whole ordeal, i act as if i didn't know them at all, would you think i should die in jail....let alone die right now....

I mean, for a few million dollars, i would never even consider killing anyone...

I would never ever consider killing anyone for money either...
However If someone was trying to kill me , I'd self defend myself to any extreme.

capital punishment is not the way...barbaric way to deal with our criminals...state sanctioned murder goes to far...

everyone has the right to life even if they are the most evil person in living history...that is the point og human rights...no matter WHO you are you have certains rights as a human being...even if you have killed someone you should not die...however we will lock you up forever...

It is barbaric, but they are barbaric..
Everyone has the right to live, but I think they should loose their rights the moment they commit such a horrific crime.

I don't believe in the death penalty, because it can be wrong. Lifetime imprisonment achieves the same thing, albeit at a cost, and is probably more unpleasant in the long term, but at least it can be overturned if the conviction is wrong.
The US has the death penalty in some states, yet it doesn't appear to be a massively effective deterrent, nor socially just.

True that, I hate the thought of the death penalty. No-one has the right to make a decision like that regarding someone else's life.

The death penalty is useless - it doesn't even seem to act as any sort of deterrent.

Inasero -I know what your getting at, there are certain standards that we need to uphold (call them basic human rights, morals, whatever) regardless of what someone has done... sortof the don't lower yourself to thier level idea... which is why I am against the death penalty. The way a nation treats its prisoners says alot about that nation and I totally agree with the focus of sentancing being on rehabilitation, I just guess the system sees some crimes as being so bad that a person that commits them could never be a contributing member of society. As for questions of being innocent or guilty, the rules of evidence ect. are pretty strict, and I (probably naively) like to have faith in the system. If the system says they are guilty, then thats good enough for me.
