yes you looked quite immersed in your 'work' I dont see how you can study in wentworth - too much noise.
i think i had my noise cancelling headphones on, but i was actually just writing up a cover letter for the boston consulting group scholarship, and editing my CV, which is why I could function with the noise. Normally I can't study with any noise (even with music)

Re: Semester II Chatter Thread!

Hello fellow Usyders. Was wondering if anyone knows the answer to the following question:

Those people who set up tables in front of fisher library (promoting war against terrorism etc), where do they get permission to be allowed to set up mini-stalls and hand out flyers? I'm thinking either the library or usyd union.

Any help is appreciated =]

I don't think the library would have much to do with it. If no-one here knows, I'll ask tommorow and post the answer here. I'd think that if you really wanted to get permission (I doubt they'd ask...), then you'd go to the VC's office or something like that.

prolly USYD security, god knows why they're allowed, if i was in charge, you'd be banned from handing out flyers on major thouroughfares from which there is no easy escape

I think it's nice to study at Manning..
Wentworth? well if you have an oral presentation you can practice there.
Since it's so noisy, people won't stare at you when you practice your presentation out loud.. they won't likely notice you anyway
Yeah, I also like to study at manning. The libraries are depressingly quiet. I need noise!!!

Libraries, quiet? You must never have been in Fisher undergrad when Commerce group assignments are coming due.

Do the Bull editors still lurk on BoS? (I've seen disparaging references to it.) If so, could they take the advice I gave to Ruchir and get themselves a subeditor? The punctuation and grammar is getting so bad I can barely stand to read it. This week's highlight, from Bec Santos:
Oh and the mellifluous strains of the 'spider pig' song ...! (You have to watch it to hear it)!
Seriously, what is going on with that punctuation? Also, Lisa Kennedy's defence of the queerspace: "But grammatically incorrect messages of hate are just one form of queerphobia existing within University grounds." I dislike homophobes as much as the next person, but if you're going to attack their grammar, don't do it in a sentence you've started with a conjunction.

Re: Semester II Chatter Thread!

Protestors are the bane of my uni life.

Like this old guy with worn-out thongs was randomly walking to uni with the normal redfern people and he just kept yelling shit on his megaphone like-
"NEXT STOP BAGHDAD"
"HELL NO I WONT GO" (like the army would take a smelly hippy like you anyway. I bet you have fleas)
"BUSH IS TEH EVILZ"
"BUSH IS WAR CRIMINALOL"

et cetera.

I hope he protests too hard and gets thrown in jail during APEC.

I'm going to photograph the APEC protests hopefully I can get into the paper with a good one.

Has anyone been able to get Outlook 2007 working with the university's mail server? I can receive from my UniKey account but I can't send mail because it says I am using the wrong server even though its smtp.usyd.edu.au.

My Thunderbird account has the exact same settings and will send/receive.

^Make sure you get a big picture of me.

And I forgot to ask. The more you know eh? (or in this case, the less you know).

FIGHT THE POWER!

Also: That Margaret Rogerson lecturer lady, for ENGL1002 was like, one of the better lecturers I've had since Mike Archer (or Peter Rudledge, if we're talking USyd). Pretty good looking too, for an older-middle age woman...

Re: Semester II Chatter Thread!

The protestors were set up on top of the steps directly outside the door to Fisher today. These ambushes are getting fucking ridiculous. Do they seriously think that people who aren't interested in taking their pamphlets or signing their useless petitions will suddenly become receptive to their message if they force themselves on them?

Re: Semester II Chatter Thread!

My God, they're not doing anyone any harm by standing outside Fischer. Maybe instead of being a snobby, contemptuous douchebag about it and ignoring them, you could, I don't know, discuss what it is they believe? They're all generall pretty nice people (even the Socialist Alternative, despite their agression), and you'd do well to have a conversation with them.

I do agree that setting up a stall on the busiest thoroughfares, where there's no room to walk, is a bloody stupid thing to do though. The Shred guys outside of Manning are particularly annoying, and cause a massive bottleneck because there's no room between them, that stall, and Manning Road. The stalls outside of Carslaw aren't that bad if they actually set up the stall outside of the Carslaw courtyard (so there's more room to manoeuvre around) as opposed to in between the blue wall the the fence.

i had trouble staying awake. but she made it clear which was good. i might have been fallking asleep because ive been up for two days. now i have to go and do like 100000000 pages of reading for my tutes tomorrow.
Hmmm, really? I found her lecture, much like Liam Semler's, to be pretty engaging and funny. That's in direct contrast to that Daniel Analyrzk (whatever) man, who was just a tad boring.

the bit where she contrasted star wars to the medieval romance aspects made me laugh :) it was also interesting to see how true it was =]

and yeah the mills and boon tape was funny too. Maybe i was just iritated because the two people next to me talked the whole time, and the two people infront of me talked the whole time. Do you guys go to the midday lectures or the 5pm ones?

I wish you could get to know me before disliking me.. I just wanted to show that I've put in some effort, at least I'm not slacking off..but is that annoying? I wish people can really get to know someone before judging them.. but that's really hard. I understand.. It's just my little wish
