I've been looking around for a good anthology of short stories to read.
Anyone care to recommend one they've read?

That's what I was going to say. A teacher read Lamb to the Slaughter when I was in about year six. Excellence.

And "The Bachman Books" if you can get a hold of it. Stephen King stopped publication because the first story, Rage, had been read by three high school shooters and he didn't want to be the reason for it. Still fairly easy to find second hand though.

Read Roald Dahl as a kid but interested in something a little more sophisticated...

I liked Dubliners too. Look into The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway.

In terms of writing style, I think Kafka and Nabokov has some really beautiful writings which can get slightly tiring in a novel. Hence why they are better suited for short stories. Try.

If you enjoyed Roald Dahl, you'd probably enjoy Lewis Carroll as well.

Edgar Allan Poe has some pretty good stuff.

There are so many. The Norton, Oxford, and O. Henry anthologies are reliably good and cover a whole lot of years. Most of the readily available ones, especially those without a certain focus, can be counted on to contain some great stuff. It's always a good idea to look at the editor. That's often a great clue as to whether you're likely to enjoy the volume as a whole. I rarely purchase those edited by people whose own work I dislike.

An Anthology of Chinese Short Short Stories has about a hundred stories in it with all sorts different themes.
