  • Yes, but it should not be criminalized. It should be treated like a speeding fine.

  • Yes. Criminalize it. It is one of the most dangerous, addictive drugs know to mankind.

The bus stop I go to of an afternoon to catch my bus sometimes stinks.

The thing is though, there are more isolated areas for smokers to sit down and smoke without disturbing anyone, and some of them have done that. Others don't, and I don't think that's good.

sorry I didn't know your legs were broken. Discomfort is not a reason for banning something

I recently did a persuasive oral presentation for Unit 3 VCE English, my contention being that tobacco should be criminalized.
The healthcare costs associated with tobacco use ENORMOUSLY outweigh the revenue received for cigarette taxes each year. It is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in our country. Having tobacco as a legal drug is a disgrace to the humanity and life which we have all been graced with.

Ban it Just Ban it. Look at all te statistics. It may seem cool to smoke the shit and be the real cool people but the turth is that it is killing you. Although the effects look slow its going to happen and you will die from it. Though i do understand why people don't wnat to ban it ~ civil liberties etc. and I also agree and empathise with that view. Its a hard decision and a tough subject. ~NEEDS MORE DEBATE~

-Obviously shouldn't be banned, because mind your own fucking business
-In the future it would be "a good idea", at least for politicians, given that the anti-smoker sentiment appears to be growing and so it would be politically wise.
-Probably won't be, at least not any time soon, because the tax revenue is so high. At least, one would expect that given that nicotine is so addictive, the government can exploit the resultant inelasticity for many years to come.
-Tax revenue argument can't be applied to marijuana because too many disapprove of marijuana use full stop for someone to run on a platform of legalising and taxing it.

This is true. Smokers should and are beginning to compensate for their cost to public health.
well you're a giant fucking retard because tax revenue from tobacco already covers their cost to the health system, and then some. If you're just going to come in here with mindless predictable posts without knowing shit about anything then you should fuck off.

obviously you smoke...mind your own business isn't a very substantial argument, How about you don't blow your smoke in my face, how about you don't stand one the side of the trail during my bike races making it hard to breathe (really bad in thredbo events cos of altitude), how about you don't stink up my trains and buses with your foul smoke that clings to your clothing.....you smoking affects others

I know right, I have said this about 4 times now.

NSW Public Health Bulletin said:
smoking increased federal and state government
outlays by $885 million but increased tax revenues
by $3,647 million (taking into account some revenue
losses). Thus, governments gain a substantial
economic benefit from smoking

When your trying to do a national series race at altitude and operating at near maximal VO2...it makes a difference, a noticeable difference

no it doesn't you're a fuckstick and don't know what you're talking about. If you are going so fast and operating at V02 max you would be past anyone smoking in fractions of a second.

OH WOW, let's COMPLETELY ban an entire substance because poor little pman experiences a second or two of discomfort during his bike racing.

You want to ban smoking because of the way smokers smell. fuck.
let's ban Aboriginals, Indians etc. too because they smell as bad as any smoker you'll meet

You don't come across that way.

Not what I'm saying, I'm saying ban it because it is an inconvenience to those that do not wish to partake of it. One person smoking adversely effects everybody around them.

Abo's and Indians don't all stink.

You come across a giant moron

The number of circumstances in which you are forced to endure someone else's smoke is not large enough for it to be BANNED.

Abo's and Indians don't all stink.
Pretty much they do, but do you think we should ban the smelly ones only then?
Should we have inspectors that smell everyone before they get on a train so they don't stink it up for you?

My overall point is that you smoking is a major inconvenience to other people, you obv don't go to UOW or you'd understand what i'm saying about the smokers.....you can't breathe at all in some areas of the uni
