4U maths is relatively easy if u styart early-by that what i mean is that the terrible portrait has been created by the fact that people have other subjects to study for and can't put enough time into 4U thus maiking it seem harder than it is. so start 4U over the holidays if ur thinking about it-it would have helped if u'd finished the 3U yrs 11 and 12 course by year 11.

4u Maths isn't that bad, and as Haque said, try to do some prior study in the holidays before you start 4u maths. The rumours you hear aren't all true so don't let that put you off doing it

well.. i love your expression, "difficult portrait of its difficulties" so i am thinking that you are better fit for 4u english. in fact, why not both?

4u IS fun. It's also very rewarding. If you like a mental challenge, definitely take it. That said, it's not a total mind warp or anything. A lot of it is simply an extension of 2u and 3u stuff, so there's still a fair amount of simple things like integration, arithmetic and algebraic manipulation like in trig proofs or identities and stuff (under the guise of complex numbers), graphing, more polynomials.

I think in hindsight the biggest to advantage to having taken 4u is that 4u is an awesome background for maths at uni, even if you don't do advanced/honours maths in first year. Take it and you'll thank yourself next year.

you will never know about it if you dont try ... just try it and if you are bad at it then try to drop before half yearlies... i hate it when guys at school (even my friends) saying it doesnt matter if you do shit in 4 unit, you will get a good mark.. biggest bullshit i ever heard in my life. drop if you are not getting 50% because doing 2 unit and killing it will be way better...

If you're not sure about 4u maths, I'd still give it a go but don't lock yourself into it, so you can drop back to 3u if you decide you don't like it (ie make sure you've got at least 11 units).

The great thing about 4u is it makes the 3u work really easy :)

Indeed, don't lock yourself into 4U in case you want to drop back at some stage. Make sure you still do all the 2U assessments so you can make that final decision as late as you like. You will still need to cover all the 2U topics at any rate to then do the 3U topics, so do all the assessments, then you have open options.

4U is fun, hard work but a challenge and very intellectually stimulating. And very rewarding in terms of achievement (and marks) and, as someone else stated, a great peparation for Uni Maths (I skipped a comuple of weeks of Pure Maths 1 because they just did complex numbers again :D )

Yes,that's it!

Just keep in mind that you will do maths at 4U level in Uni 1st year
So afterall, just 1 year acceleration in HS will not hurt :)

maths was fun until i realised i could not do 90% of the parametric equations and the only 3-d trig question in the exam, not to mention other weird questions

Well Q7 and 8 of the 4u exam will usually have weird and random questions that can combine different topics of the course or are just plain out of nowhere. :p You should still consider 4u, brush up on your weaknesses in the meantime. ;)

Anyone who has the determination and you feel that you should be doing 4 unit, i suggest you try it and see how you go.

For me, I had to beg my maths coordinator to let me do 4 unit. At first he didnt let me cause my half yearly marks were pretty medicore. Then after the 3rd term holidays, he changed his mind because of my yearly marks.
