Hmm... I understand the feeling on the outside bit. Its like that with the girls in law: one of them is a great, great friend, and the rest are all just acquaintances (who are nice enough, but I have little, or nothing, in common with them). But I think I'd have to disagree with the not being able to make friends as easily in 2nd year, but that said it all depends on the type of people you're trying to sit with. Coz there are people like me who is happy to sit with whoever as long as they're nice and can make some form of conversation. However, then you have the flipside where there are people who only stick to their cliques and look at you like you have some disease.

That said, I too sit with the people who I know and have always sat with, but I wouldnt mind if some new person came and sat with us and make chit chat. This is what Skittled, CP and I have done in psych!

Gawd...some of these posts are so kinda sad, like boo hoo sad, not pathetic sad.

It's quite easy to strike up a convo in a tute (well not ones like accounting or finance), and they you'll see em in the lecture. Group study and clubs+socs also help to forge friendships.

This thread makes for some depressing reading. Thinking over it, I really havent made many new friends apart from the one's I knew at school and some of the people they knew.

Hang in there, make the most out of what you have and don't be afraid to say hi or talk to anyone. Some people obviously won't respond but don't take it personally. If you made an effort then you can't do much more than that no matter what happens

Unlike most people herem, not a single good friend of mine is from high school. Most went to other unis and while I do see them now and then, we have vastly different interests.

Uni is meant to be the best time of your life. A day not spent socialising with good mates is another day gone that you'll never get back.

i made a friend b4 uni started and last week shes like "we need 2 make new friends", cause we do the same units and sit together in all our lectures and we r starting 2 get sick of each other ... well she is of me at least!!!!

last year when i first came, i knew noone cuz there was noone at my school at mq except me
and yeh.... the first friend i made was a random in front of the library... and i was lucky, she was in my first lecture that was right after lol

edit: actually thats not true... i just remembered lol... my first friend i made was on enrolment day... and shes like one of my better friends now yayyy

Just cos you're not in first year and have friends... some of these people don't have any high school friends or know anyone who they can call friends. Empathy.. or is that sympathy =p
