Hey guys, my IPT trial exam is this friday... just need some help with some practice multiple choice questions.

Can someone please tell me the right answer giving reasons..:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Q1: A schools library circulation desk computer has a password to protect confidential student details from unauthorized retrieval. A second password, used only by the librarian, allows access to information about internet sites visited by students and teachers. What does this set-up involve?

A: Data Security, Ethics and Privacy
B: Ethics, Computer Crime and Copyright
C: The Changing nature of work, power and control, and ethics.
D: The Changing nature of work, Power and Control, and Privacy.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q2: The formatted output from a database query or table containing selected and/or sorted fields is called a:

A: Data Dictionary
B: Form
C: Report
D: Screen

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q3: Internet service providers gather client's credit card details across the internet and store these details. They protect these details by creating a file server that:

A: Allows both uploading and downloading across the internet.
B: Does not allow internet access.
C: Only allows downloading across the internet
D: Only allows uploading accross the internet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q4: Which set of varialbles must be compatible before two connected computers can transmit to each other?

A: Baud Rate, Parity and number of data bits.
B: Communication Software Package, computer platforms and Baud Rate
C: Parity, Baud rate and communication software package
D: Parity, Number of data bits and computer platforms

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please help asap.. really appreciated.. thanks..

question 1 is A

The question is only talking about using passwords on an existing system, and changing nature of work only really comes in when you're implementing a new system. So that eliminates C and D, and it obviously isnt B

ah, i might of taken the answers the wrong way,

My point of view is the server is downloading because it receives data from the remote systems, it gathers client's credit card details. they ask for "a file server that:"so i just took it from the file servers side and seeing as we only want it to receive data i thought that you would want to allow it to download and not upload (send the credit card details)

I'm getting sooo confused ???
I can definetly see what your saying but its a bit of a dodgy question.

This is why I HATE multiple choice questions (12/20 for my trials - The questions are too vague, pretty stupid imo).

I think that Q4 is C because you need to have the same protocolls installed for communication to be sucessufl.

Q3 is C, if you dont want people to access your data, dont let them take it (preventing uploading) though that is a pritty stupid question, because it does not give any idea as to who is doing the uploading or downloading.

Q2 is B report. Pritty simple.

Q1 is A. It cant be any others, and wtf is power and control, i dont remember covering that. or is that just bullshit to throw you off? It cant be B because its got nothing to do with copyright.

*across the internet.

we download across the internet .. so we'd have to only allow uploading to ensure security and privacy is attained.~

I think Q4 should be C, you don't need two computers having the same platform to transmit data. And what does it mean to have the "number of data bits" compatible anyway? It's more likely that the computers need compatible communication software in order to, well, comminucate. :p

People, he asked for reasons ...

Q1: A schools library circulation desk computer has a password to protect confidential student details from unauthorized retrieval. A second password, used only by the librarian, allows access to information about internet sites visited by students and teachers. What does this set-up involve?

A: Data Security, Ethics and Privacy - No mention of violent or pornographic material not allowed, ethics out
B: Ethics, Computer Crime and Copyright - No mention of limited access to people who already are granted permission
C: The Changing nature of work, power and control, and ethics. - Same as A
D: The Changing nature of work, Power and Control, and Privacy. - Most appropriate I think

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q2: The formatted output from a database query or table containing selected and/or sorted fields is called a:

A: Data Dictionary - What ?
B: Form - That's before the report
C: Report - The "user-friendly" interface of the databases where people search
D: Screen - Displayes the report, not necessarily containing, but displaying

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q3: Internet service providers gather client's credit card details across the internet and store these details. They protect these details by creating a file server that:

A: Allows both uploading and downloading across the internet. - Does look fishy
B: Does not allow internet access. - Well how can you get the credit card details ?
C: Only allows downloading across the internet - Free credit card numbers ?
D: Only allows uploading accross the internet - The most appropriate choice here

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q4: Which set of varialbles must be compatible before two connected computers can transmit to each other?

A: Baud Rate, Parity and number of data bits. - These three criterion must be met, when that happens, they speak the same language
B: Communication Software Package, computer platforms and Baud Rate - Refer to C and D
C: Parity, Baud rate and communication software package - I'm sure you can use other IRC clients to talk on IRC servers instead of mIRC
D: Parity, Number of data bits and computer platforms - I'm sure a Mac computer can communicate with an IBM-comaptible server if configured properly, not the same platform ... After all, computer data is all 0s and 1s

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm browsing community.boredofstudies.org using Mozilla Firefox, instead of the Internet Explorer many of us use ...

Q4 - airies reply ...

Q3 - agreed

Q2 - agreed

Q1 - agreed, onlly abou copyright, I object to A ... mosty likely, a teacher has access to more school hard drives that contain valuable information a student can only wait until a teacher leaves his/her desk to get their hands on ...

I'd bet on A. Whilst C and D 'could' be correct, I think A is the most definite. Data security because the data has to be securely stored (ie. against unauthorised access), ethics because the librarian has to use moral judgement to know when they should and shouldn't look at the data, and privacy because the people using the system deserve to have their usage habits/tracking data kept private.

Q2: The formatted output from a database query or table containing selected and/or sorted fields is called a:

A: Data Dictionary
B: Form
C: Report
D: Screen
C. No explanation needed right?

Q3: Internet service providers gather client's credit card details across the internet and store these details. They protect these details by creating a file server that:

B: Does not allow internet access.
C: Only allows downloading across the internet

I'm guessing D here.. although I'm inclined to think in the 'real world' it isn't so straightforward as only allowing data to be written but not read remotely- look at it this way, that means the server will be storing data as it comes in and not really organising it. That'll be done later (batch processing perhaps?).

A. They are the essential parts of a protocol to enable two computers to communicate. If this was a short answer response, I'd go into even more depth and discuss how handshaking works and use examples of protocols.

Sorry for late reply, but I'm sure this'll help someone...
