back from the dead
Ok....here comes the word vomit. I warn you this will have no structure to it because I really don't know how I can explain this in a simple way because the whole situation is sort of complicated and I kinda need to explain it all.
I know this isn't really a music forum...but I just wanted to know what my fellow bored of studies people think.
Lets get right into it..
Ok, so in the summer holidays me and a friend decided we wanted to create a band. I sort of instigated it though because for a long time I have wanted to be a part of a band and she could play an instrument so I thought why not just do it? SO anyway, for a while it was just us two, then like last week we found two more people who could join with us. Now we are a 4 piece girl band and we like it this way but we have some slight problems...
So we have 3 guitarists...or rather 2 and a half. I couldn't say no to one of my best friends and she is soooo eager to learn guitar because she has wanted to for a long time, so we just let her join. I'm going to teach her, and tbh I've been playing for 4 years, but only in the last 12-18 months I've really improved a hell of a lot because I got a way better guitar and was motivated to play heaps more, so maybe if I teach her the way I learnt to play she could pick it up pretty quick? We aren't rushing anything at this stage anyway. But I remember when i started playing guitar at school in year 7, i picked it up really quickly and for music in year 8 got full marks for my guitar assessment doing one of the harder songs while the rest of the class did the easiest...the bass part of smoke on the water.
anyhoo! so yeah problems...
We haven't assigned anyone guitar parts, we have our drummer sorted out -but guitar and bass...well we don't really have any specified roles yet.
I'm not super amazing at guitar-im no slash...not even close lol, yeah I can learn songs quickly using chords, i rarely use tabs unless I need to but i cant shred it out like the lead guitarists in most bands do.
I was considering being lead because Im the most experienced guitarist, and also because I sort of feel like the leader because I put us together (I hate admitting that though because i feel so bad). oh and it kinda hurts when I think of giving lead to someone else...but i just don't know if I'm super capable of being lead or not.
Then I considered rhythm, but i'm not sure. Like i play chords and stuff all the time, but I was wondering what my friend who I'm teaching will do, because I sort of had the idea of giving that to her because its easy. and i was considering making her bassist, but she really really wants to learn guitar and she is getting one really soon.
One of my friends can apparently only play tabs and sucks at chords...and I was thinking, maybe she could be lead? BUT I REALLY DONT KNOW IF I WANT TO GIVE LEAD TO HER AND I KNOW THIS SOUNDS SO TERRIBLE, BUT I JUST SIFKSJNDVSK
tbh he haven't even heard each other play properly yet.
anyway, I was also considering bass. I was like, I could either be a guitarist or a bassist. although I just don't know which one to be. I haven't learnt bass before, none of us know bass actually. my friend who plays tabs was thinking of doing bass, but then i thought if she does bass, it would be really really simple stuff...and i thought maybe because I learn quickly I could take up bass? BUT I REALLY DONT KNOW OMG!!! like, apparently you need strong fingers for bass? and i think maybe i would have the strongest fingers bc i play guitar everyday and I can somewhat handle barre chords and stuff. but i am not that good with barre chords.
heeeeelp! i know this probably sounds so incredibly stupid but i need help, advice, tips, anything!
Any of you guys out there in a band?
I NEED UR HELP!
I would probably be lead singer though...apparently tab girl cant sing, my other friend won't admit she can sing, and our drummer says she can sing a bit. i don't know if I'm amazing at singing, but people have said I'm quite good..idk
ANYWAY! Let me just recap bc that was a lot to take in:
- we are an all girl band..who play instruments...groups inspiration is 5SOS and my inspirations are all time low, fall out boy, and i also really love black sabbath and iron maiden and led zeppelin and like actual rock.
- we so far, have 3 people who either can/ or are very determined to learn guitar.
- we have not sorted out our roles for guitar yet. We were thinking of having : Lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar.
- Should I play Bass? Or Should I play Guitar? (we would probably be pop rock...unless i can convince my friends to do a bit more rock-ish stuff)
- If I should play guitar, should I be lead or rhythm?
- any tips to improve a pretty alright singing voice to become like amazing idk.
i don't know if i forgot anything...
im so incredibly sorry for the length of this and how unorganised this is. i just needed to explain it all >.<
i told you it would be word vomit.
if you can provide me with any help, tips etc. PLEASE DO! And thank you in advance.
