If a stimulus for the creative writing part is written in first person, can we change it to third person?

Like if it directly asks you to put a quote as the first line e.g. 2010

"Select ONE of the quotations as the opening for a piece of imaginative writing that explores
the challenges of belonging and not belonging.
• ‘I am outside the door.’
OR
• ‘We want to believe this is how it was . . .’
OR
• ‘I felt expelled and exiled . . .’ "

Can I start it off with like "He was outside the door"? Or would that not be counted?

How about something like? "I am outside the door," whispered John as he crept along the veranda.
That forces third person and it's still the first line with additions.

You can, it's not ideal, but you can.
Would I lose any marks though?

What if I contracted the "I am" to " I'm " to more easily flow with my writing style?

How about something like? "I am outside the door," whispered John as he crept along the veranda.
That forces third person and it's still the first line with additions.
I was planning on using this method, but I felt it sounded too forced.
