Now for what I do. Most of the time I will either be talking (as already stated), looking around, daydreaming (although I cannot claim that I have ever actually fallen asleep), or thinking about how much working I have to do for the subject in order to be up-to-date for the final exams.

i do all of the above. if the lecture is really pointless, usually get up and leave...
i dont have them with me now, but in one class last semester me and a few friends had consecutive paper conversations that would carry on from one lecture to another.... i really should scan it, you will be amazed at how bored we were

+ waste time illustrating nice headings, instead of taking the notes that are meant to go under the headings
+ read books
+ sleep (it takes practice to stay upright -- i.e. without your head rolling over to the side)

gah, i hate people who leave their phones on (or at least with noises on) in lectures! one of my typography lecturers last semester had the coolest phone policy: if it rang in class, she'd answer it. didn't matter if it was your gf, your parents, your dentist... prodiced some pretty funny results.
