Here were my final selections (rather different from what I was thinking three or four months ago):

3u English
2u Ancient History
2u Legal Studies
2u Society & Culture
2u Drama
1u Philosophy

For Year 12, I take up an extra unit of English, possibly another unit of History, and drop Philosophy + one other subject (the one I least enjoy/do the worst in).
what do you learn in Society and Culture?

Hm....

Since im in yr 10, i 've been constantly thinking about subject selection, as we have to decide at the end of term 2....

and our skool is making us do career testing...and department talks already :( and at our interviews all the teachers are trying to persuade to do THEIR subjects... lol...

So im thinking of doing these subjects

3 maths
3 english
2 economics
2 modern history
2 Studies of Religion

Career goals:???? I dont no...2 young...however want to do something with law....

In yr 12, i might drop a unit of math to pick up extension history...

Its likely to change anytime though :)

I'll probably choose:

Mathematics
English Advanced
Economics
Business Studies
Legal Studies
Ancient History

not sure if i should replace one for a science subject =S

aiming to do something with commerce, and a bit of arts so
bcom/barts not sure yet.
my maths teacher said to take advanatge of maths, since he thinks i'm more maths inclined cuz 3 unit maths scales better, so that will help me score a good UAI.
but not sure yet, need a careers advisor.
when it comes to the uni offers, do they look at your UAI, or does it depend if you've done well in the prerequisites????

Except for education courses, which I think prerequisites are two units of english and maths, there are no prerequisites for pretty much all university courses in NSW, not so sure about the whole of Australia. SO I would be assuming they would be looking at your UAI.

4 Maths

2 Chemistry
2 Business Studies (accelerated)

That's just what I've gathered from my talks with my year advisor, but between now and Term 3, that could drastically change.

The prerequisites for education aren't actually set by the universities. They are a requirement of employment by the Department of Education. So you can get into an education course without having done HSC maths for example - but then during your course you have to prove that you have 'satisfactorily met the maths requirement' which usually involves doing an elective focusing on maths.

So whilst the majority of HSC leavers would find it easier to just do maths & english if they know they want to do education, if they haven't they can still get into the course and meet this requirement for employment.
im not up to scratch with mathematics extension 1, do i not qualify to be an engineer ?

you cant do mathematics extension 2 in the preliminary year unless you accelerate.

2 Unit Mathematics
Physics
Chemistry
Engineering Studies (If i can find a school that runs it!)
and maybe modern history or maths extension

I'm very interested in a career in science, engineering or potentially teaching
try mathematics extension 1, and if you are a no hoper in that like me, drop it.

Could someone please explain to me what "scaling up/down" means, and how it could affect my mark; based on what subjects I do?

You need at least 12 units for your Prelim. year, and you can only pick up Japanese Extension in Year 12.

Just for some input.

3 Unit Maths: only do it if you're prepared to work in it

2 Advanced English: well ... yeh english sucks

Chemistry: I really like chemistry, tis a good subject

Biology: I think it requires more time then chemistry and its really good

IPT: depending on what teacher and program you have at school it can be AWESOME or awesomely crap. See what your major work is before you pick it.

business Studies: a bludge, only do it if you can write well and flab on about nothing.

Well I'm not 100% sure at the moment, and I don't have to pick until the middle of next term, but here are some of my tentative choices...

English (2U)
Maths (2U)
French continuers
Chemistry
Jap beginners
Biology

That's twelve there, I think but these aren't set in stone yet. Oh, and I'm not entirely sure what I want to do in uni.

hmmm im thinking
Physics
Maths 3U
Economics
SOR 1U

And dont know whether i should do English Standard or Advanced but im currently in the top class at english but i want to do Standard as it may be easier to get better marks. And not sure whether to do legal or biology as my last 2U

Any advice on what would be better out of legal and biology
And either will doing Standard for easy marks be better for The UAI then Advanced
