K, I watched the movie, The Shiralee on the weekend, and it is perfect as a related text. Others I have found are:
Buddhist stories
Stopping by woods on a snowy evening
Dreamtime stories

Hey.

For an inner journey, which falls also under the title of a "road-movie" from the stimulus booklet, is Elizabethtown.
How the main character, Drew I think?, played by Orlando Bloom, journeys to his home town to find not only himself but where he fits in the world and where his life really has meaning.
Umm ... the rest everyone has already mentioned. That I can think of at the moment anyway :p

important note: i've noticed lots of you asking for help (not only in this thread but in others) with really brief statements like "i need techniques on XYZ" ...

the reason you're finding it hard to find these techniques is because you're taking exactly that approach! and hence the replies will also be unsatisfactory. here's what i recommend:

firstly, find what the basic thesis of the novel/movie/poem is. is it that the persona discovers something about themselves? is it that they move from happy to sad? is it that they realise journeys are essentially made alone? what is it? there will always be a general premise.

next, ESPECIALLY those of you with books, choose a section, or a paragraph or a chapter. i dont care, just a small section and analyse that or at least detail to bos posters that you want help on that section. the advice you then receive will be much more pertinent.

if all this fails, post back and i'll reply!

Mao's Last Dancer...is anyone else doing it?
that is a brilliant book. unfortunately, i didnt do inner journeys (did imaginative), but i reckon its good for this type of journey. nice to talk about the journey from the peasant in life to the prince on the dancing stage, a remarkable transformation!

another novel to consider is "Catcher in the Rye" by JD Salinger. not a very long book, only 300-400 odd pages. nice book.

Question: How exactly does one go about analysing song lyrics. I'm going inner journey and want to analyse I Believe I Can Fly. Any suggestions?

And I bet no one thought of episodes of The Simpsons, particually Lisa the Vegetarian, Lisa's Wedding and Lisa the Simpson.... hmmmm all of them seem to revolve around Lisa  :)

two songs that i believe are good for inner journey ..

The Storm is Over Now
by R. Kelly

I was in a tunnel
And couldn´t see the light
And whenever I´d look up
I couldn´t see the sky
Sometimes when I´m standing
It seems like I done walked for miles
And my heart could be cryin´
Dead in the middle of a smile

But then I climbed the hills
And saw the mountains
I hollered help ´cause
I was lost
Then I felt the strong wind
Heard a small voice sayin´

Refrain:
The storm is over
The storm is over now
And I can see the sunshine
Somewhere beyond the clouds
I feel Heaven, yeah
Heaven is over me
Come on and set me free

Now in the midst of my battle
All hope was gone
Downtown in a rushed crowd
And felt all alone
And every now and then
I felt like I would lose my mind
I´ve been racin´ for years
And still no finish line

But then I climbed the hills
And saw the mountains
I hollered help ´cause
I was lost
Then I felt the strong wind
And then a small voice sayin´

Refrain

Somehow my beginning
Stepped right in(Right in)
Then faith became my friend(My friend)
And now I can depend
On the voices of the wind
When it´s sayin´
sayin´

Refrain(2x)

Looks I can see the light shining(4x)

GOOD CHARLOTTE LYRICS

"Emotionless"

Hey dad
I'm writing to you
not to tell you, that I still hate you
just to ask you
how you feel
and how we fell apart
how this fell apart

are you happy out there in this great wide world?
do you think about your sons?
do you miss your little girl?
when you lay your head down
how do you sleep at night?
do you even wonder if we're all right?

but we're all right
we're all right

[Chorus:]
it's been a long hard road without you by my side
why weren't you there all the nights that we cried
you broke my mother's heart
you broke your children for life
it's not ok,
but we're all right
I remember the days, you were a hero in my eyes
but those are just a long lost memory of mine
I spent so many years learning how to survive
Now, I'm writing just to let you know I'm still alive

the days I spent so cold, so hungry
were full of hate
I was so angry
the scars run deep inside this tattooed body
there's things I'll take, to my grave
but I'm okay
I'm okay

[Chorus:]
it's been a long hard road without you by my side
why weren't you there all the nights that we cried
you broke my mother's heart
you broke your children for life
it's not ok,
but we're all right
I remember the days, you were a hero in my eyes
but those are just a long lost memory of mine
Now, I'm writing just to let you know I'm still alive
yeah, I'm still alive

sometimes
I forgive
yeah and this time
I'll admit
that I miss you, said I miss you

[Chorus:]
it's been a long hard road without you by my side
why weren't you there all the nights that we cried
you broke my mother's heart
you broke your children for life
it's not ok,
but we're all right
I remember the days, you were a hero in my eyes
but those are just a long lost memory of mine
Now, I'm writing just to let you know I'm still alive

and sometimes
I forgive
and this time
I'll admit, that I miss you, I miss you
hey dad

It's harder to analyse songs as much of the meaning and techniques used are conveyed through the music.

is "the life and death of peter sellers" a good one to do? i was thinking of using how peter goes from being a "little boy" all his life because he is treated like one, especially by his mother, but doesnt realise that he has none of his own character or personality until he reads the book "being there" and decides to make a film on it.

im not sure if its any good because i think i hav to relate it to the play "cosi" (lewis nowra) and i dont really think it does :S.

argh, cant stand english!!!
