yeaah man, dw.. ignore (most of) these ostentatious pricks, you're sitting in the same position as most of the state atm.

In reply to the title of the thread, it wasn't a hard exam, though some of those who say it was "SO EASY" might think it wise to withold their comments until after they get their marks back (then post it here so we can laugh at your great hindsight).

Anyway, too much conics. I hate conics. Tywebb-there wasn't a great deal of number theory, only q 7 maybe, but Arnold and Arnold surely set that rather than Mr PB.

ALso, with regards to scaling, 4U only scales well if all the candidates do well in 3U. That is the logic behind why ext2 maths scales better than ext2 eng--4u english students don't neccessarily do well in the advanced exam.

So yes, if you all want this exam to scale well, do well in 3u

Edit: Thank you DavidGock, a relief for me too that you also have sense

no actually Bos has alot of ppl who think they are smart and brag bout getting 119/120...seioulsy...theres like 1 person in the state who gets bout 110 or above...well thats wat ive heard
no thats not true
there should at least 10 people with >110 in any year
and this year there will be more because this year's exam is easier relative to past ones

and it's likely that >1 person will get full marks this year

umm may i ask how 3unit is directly connected to scalling in 4unit??

Well, the BOS looks at all the four unit students, and scale their 4U mark to an extent that reflects on how well they fared in the 3u exam in comparison with the 3u students. So say, all the 4u students do better than the 3u students , then the 4u marks will skyrocket. Unfortunately this is not always the case, and the scaling procedure gets a bit whacked when there's such a large candidature. But it's important to do well in 3U, so yeah, go study even if your're tired.

And Mojako: what the hell dude what school do you go to, I think only 4 schools really ever have >10 students getting over 110:
Ruse
Syd Boys
grammar
possibly st george

there may be a gramar boy and a ruse boy on this board who scored so high as 119/120, but being notorius in the world of maths this may have been predicted.

my friend did the hsc last year and he reckons he got 3 questions right. thats 37%.

he got a hsc exam rank of 73. and last years paper is 'considered' harder than this years... so yeh dont worry about it.. move on and concentrate on your other exams.

ah k sorry didn't read that properly.

Also this year's and last year's were about the same in difficulty up to around q6. Only difference being 7&8 were much easier. Esp 7 which is almost directly out of arnold chapter 8. (this said I didn't complete that chapter-thus not boasting in any way)
