I don't get it.. why do "humanists" treat christians with such malice and disdain and in turn "christian" the "enlightened" treat everyone whos not christian as though they know something better than them? And why then, do christians refer to scientists as over-thinkers? If not for the advance in scientific technology we wouldn't be able to live like we do today.. If christians don't want that then people can take it away very easily, but then that would be against morals and the values of human life that christians tend to uphold so much.

I mean, at the moment, I'm neither.. I'm not falling for the trap of the so-called "cynical" or the other so-called "ignorant".. I just don't understand.. someone please explain. How do you know which one is right?

I know people back up things with a lot of bias and personal opinion but let face it they've both got credibility.. Evolution theorists have a lot of scientific evidence, like it or not, they do.. and if you don't belive it you're stupid (can someone tell me why christians find it so offensive to have evolved from apes? If they include dinosaurs and the Big Bang in the 6 days of creation why can't they just see the process of creation of man as Evolution, slow growing?). But then again christians have generations and generations of tradition of religion and way of life, if it has been like this for so long can they really be wrong? Is their book really holy or is it just a book?

Why are people so ignorant towards others feelings? Societal values or not we all live on the same planet. Who cares who is for abortions or against them. Who cares about who looks at pornography or who is "pure". Isn't the main aim of this type of industrialism progress? How can there be progress when the world isn't united? Why is there bigger gaps than there have been in a long time between the rich of the rich and the poor of the poor. If our religious leaders know so much why don' they share it with the rest of us?

Even though both claim to be for the people and to consider others, do we really? Or are we just in it for ourselves? Are both becoming more and more like each other as the days go bye? Isn't that hypocrisy?

No it hasn't, nick. This is slightly different.

Progress through order or chaos... Yay for Babylon 5 (and whatever inspired it in that sense).

We are social animals (whether the Christians will accept that we too are animals or not*), yet we also seem to be competitive and happy in that at least our grass is greener than their's... Over simplistic (and probably incorrect), but that's my view.

I didn't say much, did I?

*I'm agnostic :).

I'm not asking you which you believe or how can it be explained or how we can live in harmony.. I'm asking how come noone searches for a logical answer, why do people eat their words and not know it? Why do we say we're for everyone but we're really not?

Well I try to apply critical thinking in order to reach the most LIKELY 'objective truth', however most post-modernist thinking (which i don't necessarily disagree with in all situations) leads us to believe that there simply IS not objective truth.

Simply because people disagree doesn't mean both groups are viscious and hypocritical. The way I see it, the Christian belief relies upon a profound blissful ignorance. A lot of people say that it does such good things, and that people need it. But I am a thinker. I cannot help but seek the truth and to inquire. This means seeking knowledge, not just comfort. In my view the only valid position to take is that of agnosticism. It is the only position entirely defendable. Part of the problem for me is that I see the terrible things that religious institutions can do - wars, hatred of gays, control.

Because these institutions are founded upon air, it causes me great stress to see the perpetual conversion and preaching, often filled with nothing but metaphors about lighting up the dark life human's live in. Churches are in ways a collection of scared souls, the ones who need an answer. We don't have a meaning in our lives, that is true. Religion gives that to people. I'm just not one for the "ignorance is bliss" type of attitude.

To be honest it annoys me when I see people trying to convert people with their delusions of "a better life", constant metaphors of "light," and other rubbish. I think it's a waste to treat this life as a rehearsal - limiting one's potential on arbitary rules that one has no real way of validating.

I'm just being truthful with you here. I don't mean any disrespect to anyone. I don't normally speak so frankly about religion, but you seem interested to know what makes these conflicts continue.

Yes you've pointed it out, it's just a theory, christians say it all the time as if to instantly prove them wrong. But how is christianity not just a theory as well.

Christianity is not a theory. It does not explain previous events nor predict future ones. It is a faith, it requires the intervention of a being who does not obey laws of nature.

For some they have no problem believing in that being, that's fine, however, I get annoyed when they think I will suffer the consequences of said being. If they leave me alone Im fine for it (some of my friends are VERY STRONG christians, Earth is a few thousand years old type, but we let each other be and get along) if they start shouting I get annoyed.

Yes soha.
And the THEORY of gravity, is just a theory.
However, Gravity is objectively real.

You can SEE evolution (at least micro) occuring all the time! lol

i dont beleive that they are mutually exclusive at all. its diehard christians and any cathlics that tend to piss me off, the bible is meant to be intperpreted in your own way, and i dont see anywhere in there that shows evolution is wrong, or that the earth is only a few thousand years old for that matter! why cant both erm "theorys" live together? its not an option of picking 1 over the other, i think based on conclusive evidence that evolution is an actual process, and i tend to beleive in god aswell.

i have more repect for diehard pro-evolution scientists than i do for diehard pro-creation catholics though as the scientists have al lthe proof[ not taking that because evolution is true than god does not exist]

I think Tom Lehrer puts it best:

For more, here's the lyrics to National Brotherhood Week.

And then there's the fact that humans seem to want to act in tribes - the footy, your area, your family, your school, whatever your tribe is. They can be ideologically based or geographically based. I've heard that in studies when people have been given red and blue armbands they begin to think that their group is better than the other group - they "cleave to their tribe".

One thing i don't understand is the big bang theory. The law of conservation of mass clearly states theat "matter can neither be created nor destroyed", so, how can a whole heap of random particles, floating around in oblivion, suddenly come together to create some massive explosion, creating the universe and world, etc. I am a christian ,and i do believe the majority of elements of evolution, such as natural selection, blah blah, and there is vast evidence of primitive beginnings for earth, but i still don't get how the universe and worlds could be created from virtually nothing.

It stems from the fact that matter and energy are interchangeable. This is how nuclear power is generated. The law of conservation of mass is true (as far as known) and the same as the law of conservation of energy, as mass and energy are interchangeable.

Not to mention the laws of conservation are actually violated all the time by nature, even if overall energy/matter is conserved (virtual particles).
