How can you prove the Earth is not flat? Maybe the satellite images are full of shit, you never know.

of course the earth's not flat, what about the mountains and valleys?! (lol~ yes sorry that was lame)

hmm... there's more evidence than just images in favour of a round earth.

the moon is round, the sun is round, the other planets are (and you can see that for yourself through any telescope), so are the stars... why should the earth be the only thing in the universe to be any different?

also, if you go to the coast and look hard along the horizon line, you can see the curve... plus if the world wasn't round, there'd be no northern/southern hemispheres... seasonal changes, time measurement, day/night as we know it, would all be... um - very different!

Besides in reality, as far as i know, no-one's ever sailed over the edge of the earth
Or come to the sky-blue painted fibreglass dome that keeps us boxed in here...

light waves would still require a medium for transmission
Are these guys for real ?

Is this seriously a joke?

They don't even understand gravity.

Something wrong with the brain.

Careful there. Many (more accurate) experiments since the Michelson-Morley experiment have returned POSITIVE results for the existence of aether. A conclusive test is being done as we speak so we should know for sure in the next few years.

He sounds like a madman, but he is probably correct. Experiments are being funded to confirm once and for all whether or not aether exists, so I guess we can confirm his sanity later.

Remember though that just as everyone thought Newton's theories were correct until Einstein came along (and in fact Newton's stuff is still pretty good for describing a lot of things), the same will probably happen to Einstein's stuff.

What is ether
It's what 19th century scientists believed light travelled through. They believed that light required a medium to travel through because all other waves such as sound and mechanical waves required a medium.

They believed that the ether caused light to travel at different speeds depending on which direction the light was travelling through it. Michealson and Morley disproved the model later.

According to New Scientist , ether is definately back on the agenda - sorry, but you'll have to find a print edition to read the full thing. :(

The Flat Earth Society is a spoof, look at the fine print:
The Flat Earth Society is not in any way responsible for the failure of the French to repel the Germans at the Maginot Line during WWII. Nor is the Flat Earth Society responsible for the recent yeti sightings outside the Vatican, or for the unfortunate enslavement of the Nabisco Inc. factory employees by a rogue hamster insurrectionist group. Furthermore, we are not responsible for the loss of one or more of the following, which may possibly occur as the result of exposing one's self to the dogmatic and dangerously subversive statements made within: life, limb, vision, Francois Mitterand, hearing, taste, smell, touch, thumb, Aunt Mildred, citizenship, spleen, bedrock, cloves, I Love Lucy reruns, toaster, pine derby racer, toy duck, antelope, horseradish, prosthetic ankle, double-cheeseburger, tin foil, limestone, watermelon-scented air freshner, sanity, paprika, German to Pig Latin dictionary, dish towel, pet Chihuahua, pogo stick, Golf Digest subscription, floor tile, upper torso or halibut.

what a nutter, kinda sad that he lost everything fighting for what he beleived was correct... would have really crushed him if he realised he was wrong. On the issue about ether, the other guys are right, it hasnt been concisively proven that ether does not exist... if it does, it wil probably have almost no effect on the educated anyways like big shit, ether exists. people knew this centuries ago
