with a couple of days remaining till marks come out, how bout we play a little game :D

estimate your marks for each subject, then we see how much we were off by in total. (taking absolute values for the pedantics here yes i am looking at you flyin';))

eg)
estimates:
abcd100 50
efgh101 60
ijkl250 45

real marks:
abcd100 50
efgh101 50
ijkl250 50

total score: 15. the lower your score, the better.

me:
accg200 70
accg250 76
busl250 72
econ141 70

the winner gets whatever is left in the cookie jar.

btw, we can access our results from 12.01 am on the 19th?

I have only four things to post:

1. Unlike most universities, Macquarie is special and uses SNGs which means there is no way to reasonably guess your SNGs. The grade itself is more reasonable. However, we might have ties.

2. The results should be online a bit before 12.01, because I'm sure Macquarie University has learnt there lesson from first semester, last year. Release it on time, and students will hammer the server.

3. Only an accounting student would think to use absolute values. :D

4. An actuary would obviously use: mean, standard deviation (or 2nd central moment) and skewness (or third central moment). Much more precise. ;)
* Bonus marks to those who weight their units correctly, if you're not doing all 4cps or 3cps.
* Everyone here should be able to mean and standard deviation (unless you've failed STAT170). The actuaries should all be able to do third central moment, except possibly the first years.

@ bscienceboi: unless you top or near top Biochem, 90 is almost impossible at Macquarie. =p [Refer to "Results soon!" thread for Distribution of Grades nonsense.]

@ self: mean = 75, standard deviation = 10, skewness ~ 0

Subject estimates in order of transcript appearance: 67, 67, 83, 83.

Three points to the first observant poster.

@ redruM: the cookie jar's empty, already?

the sd = 9.2...?

and flyin' go easy on technicalities dude. :D

the cookie jar:

edit: it is just a game, we dont need to tax our brains. btw, if we didnt use absolute values, we could negate postive and negative errors, and probably have better estimates than reality.

No, it's not 9.2. You get 1.5 points for the observation.

haha, that's not your cookie jar or cookies. I see fake cookies. [in Sixth Sense style]

Some people are doing 3 subjects rather than 4, so I sugest we take the best 3 out of how many subjects you are doing.

wow. thats a very high expectation. To get that you would easily need not only all HDs for all assessments but be within the top 5 of the courses. Good luck! :)

I've had more HDs than anything else, although I got one credit in this stupid assesment (only worth 10%) which I'm contesting. The way it's going, I should get all 85+ :D

i guess if you got HD's in ancient you might get a high mark. i got my lowest marks in ahst100 and still managed 76, so you never know.. (though that credit, if it isnt fixed, will screw you over, so get it fixed now!!!!).

Thanks for your concern, lemon pie, I'm addressing that issue as we speak.

Edit:

Hahhaha, Cyan just blocked me because I was going to ruin Harry Potter for him. ahh, hilarious.
