yeah, that sounds about right

but i tell ya, they are terrible. but its niot just that, tehy have shown everyone of their home games on fox and i don't know if yous have realised - it's a different roduction. the commentartors have the most annoying accents in the world, and at north harbour stadium, there are only about 1000 people there, and for spome reason every week there are about 50 tossers who blow those horns and bash something continually. very annoyring

Have a go at this:

HALF A MILLION THIS WEEKEND

With the half-way mark of the Hyundai A-League regular season reached last weekend (Round 11), the aggregate attendance for all 44 Hyundai A-League matches so far stands at 492,716 - just 7,284 short of the half-million mark.

The league’s 500,000 spectator should therefore pass through the gate this Friday night with two matches scheduled - Melbourne Victory v Newcastle Jets at Olympic Park Stadium, and Perth Glory v New Zealand Knights at Members Equity Stadium.

After Round 11, the Hyundai A-League’s average attendance stands at 11,198, almost three times the average regular season crowd recorded in the last season of the old national league (4,119).

Excluding the world’s top tier leagues of England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain – which are each averaging over 20,000 per game so far this season – the Hyundai A-League’s average attendance compares well with several other well established and renowned football leagues around the world.

Average attendance, excluding play-off matches

Average – League - Season (in progress, unless stated)
18,585 - Japan (J-League) - 2005 season
17,124 - England 2nd tier (Championship)
15,980 - Holland (Eredivisie)
15,108 - USA (MLS) - 2005 season (regular season complete)
11,352 - South Korea (K-League) - 2004 season (complete)
11,198 - AUSTRALIA (Hyundai A-League)
10,864 - Brazil (Campeonato Brasileiro)
9,607 - Belgium (Jupiler League)
9,768 - Portugal (Division One)
9,487 - Norway (Tippeligaen) - 2005 season (complete)

At this rate, the 2005-06 Hyundai A-League may well see its 1,000,000th spectator come through the turnstiles by Grand Final day, scheduled for 5 March 2006.

good to see that there are alot of people following australian soccer now. I think it a good game to watch and alot of goals are scored. The referees are always throwing out yellow and red cards aswell that probably the down side of the game but everything else is good. I like watching the A-League because i know there are going to be alot of goals scored and some good play throughout the match.

^^ Interesting, DRAGONZ. The brazilian league doesnt need mass numbers going through the gates, it gets millions watching it on TV. I wonder how the TV ratings for the A-league are.

^ you spoke too soon. Adelaide back at the top, and I think Central Coast needed this one to make the finals. Well, this league is soo unpredictable they probably still will make it.

Should be a good weekend of A-League football!

I think the Perth V Newcastle match is the most Vital in regards to the outcome of the A league heading into the final third of the season. A major loss (3-0) to either time would severly hamper Finals chances. Because A heavy loss allows CC, Mel and Qld too have hope in making the final four. And also who ever wins the 3 v 4 match has a good chance in getting the number 2 spot if Either Syd Or Ade lose.

Or perhaps its too early to make these kind of judgements :)

I don't think the ratings would be massive... there is only like 3 million people with access to cable and I doubt all of them watch the A-League.

We need one game a week on commercial TV.

Commercial TV at a suitable time. Not 1am like 7 did with the NSL. For this, SBS would be fine and a place where the top Australian football league rightly belongs.

Watch out for NZ as they could cause an upset. Melbourne are playing pretty shit and Archie is doubtful, whereas NZ did show some positive stuff last week. But then again, it's NZ.

Man NZ are not what this league needs, sure if you take them out than another team has too be a celar dweller but at least that other team, as it stands now Qld. Have a good chance still in making the finals.

NZ are not bad - they just had everything stuffed up from the beginning. They just signed players without really considering depth or positioning - same as Sydney FC. I think they should remain - at least for the next few years - and see how they progress.

Maybe i'm cynical, but i think if they aired the games on TV, people would be less likely to go to the games.

Matches should go on TV as soon as the crowd numbers are constantly high.

That game was shit. The Cove was good though. First time they've impressed me.
