If they double the size of the goal and double the amount of players on the field at once then I will watch it. I just can't put up with the constant passing around and lack of scoring.

It's not that at all.

I like the idea of soccer just with more goals, at least 10 or 15 per game, and not so much passing around.

Go watch any Under-10's game at Scarbrough Park then.

Hehe, forgive me if I'm wrong, but perhaps a contributing factor is that there has been NO football in Australia for the last 16 months . . .

Apart from that, though, it's understandable.
Yeah, but whenever it's been brought up into discussion the thread slowly dies, seeing as though that thread has had arguments about the most inane shit, it'd seem that if anyone actually cared they'd post about it. I include any Socceroos talk too.

Football, Cricket, Comedy Channel. They make Fox worth it. No wonder you missed having it.

An under 10's game is far more entertaining to me than an a professional game. I just don't get why people like watching 1 goal being scored.

it'll cost me $15000 to watch villa/pompey at the stadium. i can watch sydney vs melbourne, dwight yorke vs kevin muscat for less than a pineapple

stop paying out football here. give it a chance now its not NSL. a-league will be as good as some european leagues

When did I pay out Australian football. I just said that no-one on BOS seems to care enough about it for a thread to be too active. Which is pretty true when you look at how little anyone discusses it in the big thread.

Your comparison was ridiculous too btw.

Then don't bother watching the professionals play. Or even better, go play a few games yourself which normally increases the appreciation of the professional players and the big games.

i wasnt saying you were paying out australian football, but you seem a bit skeptical.

the commercial tv channels are the ones that are starting to shit me. channel nine are the worst. see the news tonite? the first games of the new league were behind a rugby match between seth efrika and the all blacks. i was interested in the match, but, seriously?

ppl would love to know more about the league, a little more help from the media would be nice.

it seems im not the only one who agrees:

btw, thanx for the goals :)

To no one in particular... The NSL wasn't that bad.

Oh well, without the Spirit, a team from the 'gong or Parramatta, it looks as though I'll be cheering on the Glory (from afar and without a cable/satellite connection). However, I'm hoping that Sydney FC doesn't die a slow and agonizing death similar to that of the Spirit, and I will turn up to watch the odd game or two (every Friday night game, basically).

Also, the lack of any free to air coverage (not even a half-hour highlights package each week) is hardly going to help a game that's attempting to establish itself for the 4567th time, so I'm hoping that Foxtel and SBS work out a deal of some sort to allow for such a programme to be aired (as suggested by O'Neill late last year).

Dwighty and Zdrillic got a good slot on the Footy Show last Thursday. They even plugged the Syd v Melbourne game many times.

Maybe we should all stop being so paranoid about the media being anti-soccer. There obviously are going to be haters there, but the A-League's establishment has a lot of private backers who also have stakes in the big TV stations and newspapers. There'll be plenty of exposure for the League.

@ Generator. The old NSL had it's own free to air contract. How much of it did we actually see?

The NSL's free to air coverage in recent years wasn't exactly uniform (ABC, 7, SBS), and what was shown did rate well enough given the reputation of the product on offer. Still, not a great deal was shown, but we should keep in mind that the ever so successful Soccer Australia was responsible for dealing with the NSL's coverage rights.

The point is that if this is meant to be the future of football in this country, then some degree of free to air coverage beyond that of goal highlights as shown within a sporting brief is necessary. The creation of a highlights package is all that is needed, and that a deal allowing for such a programme to be aired hasn't been negotiated is just... It beggars belief. If they want the competition to succeed, then they should be trying to expose the game to as many people as possible, no matter the cost. I do realise that nobody may have wanted the free to air rights of the league as a whole and that a highlights package from Foxtel wouldn't exactly be cheap for any station yet alone SBS, but it's something that the competition needs, and it's something that the new administration should have considered and acted in favour of long ago.

Edit: I just hate the thought of not being able to catch a reasonable glimpse of the A-League given that we don't connect to foxtel's service, and I'm sure that there are many others out there who share my thoughts on the matter.
