Its suprising how little the LOTR movies are hyped considering they cost as much as the Matrix.

Itll be interesting to see how much of the third book they manage to capture in the movie because ALOT happened in the third book. Way more than in the first two books but the movie clocks in at a pretty similar time to the other two.

The movies are amazing. The special effects are insane but the movie tells a great story and the special effects are used to compliment the great story and characters rather than to make a wham bam movie. I had my quibbles with the first movie (ie, the ridiculous overuse of slomos and the overacting of Bilbo Baggins) but the Two Towers is just amazing. The Two Towers is one of the best movies ever made IMO and probably the best big budget special effects Hollywood movie of our generation.

Theyve been showing them at some cinemas lately. The showed the extended edition of the Fellowship last week at Fox Studios, George St Hoyts and Gtr Union and Hornsby. They are showing The Towers until Wednesday. I prefer the Extended Editions, particularly of the second one because it gets some much needed character development and breaks up the action a bit more.
