The prosecutors recommended life, but the judges can still give the death penalty.Asquithian said:Prosecutors are going for life not death.
As for the people who assume that and swear that she is innocent...can i ask what do you base that on?
That's exactly right. No one has ever cared about any other Australian's in the same situation. And because everyone is only listening to the emotion they all think she is innocent. The main judge said he didn't care about her emotion because it was based on legal points, and the defense had none.Smokey_22 said:I dont believe Corby would be getting as much media attention if she were a male, and didn't cry for the cameras. She has used sympathy as a good weapon - even if it may not be intentional.
no it doesn'tAsquithian said:Bleh. I dont know if she is guilty of not but the whole OMG OMG OMG SHE IS SO INNOCENT smacks so badly of isolationist self obsessed Australia.

people have sympathy for her on a personal level, not because they don't think an australian would ever be guilty of something like this
Corby has until next Wednesday to make a decision on whether to accept the verdict or appeal.
We cannot be sure of the exact decisino at this stage. There is too much noise.
The judge said 20 years and then he said six months... Corby is telling the family to settle down.
The family is yellgin at the judge, nothgin can be heard of the judge

The court is erupting
She has been given 20 years
it's been proven that she has imported drugs into Indonesia. Guilty on first count.
She got 20 years because she was found guilty of the importing charge. If it was one of the lesser charges she might have been given less.Asquithian said:What makes you think that her story is true? Her crying? what makes you assume that it is dodgy baggage handlers?
I personally dont know if she is guilty or not. the majority of Australia, I would submit, doesnt give two flying fucks about the evidence against her.
Emotional news casting gives the impression that she is as innocent as hell. not the mention the fact that i really do think that most of australia simply think she is guilty based on subconscious notions of Australia being superior in all ways which includes the justice system.
Everyone knows that 20 years is heavy for pot. BUT if she really is guilty, which the court has found, then I can only sympathise with her sentence because I think it is too long. but I cant see how she is innocrnt or any different from the many many drugs cases that are heard in that part of the world.
