If you want people to take your opinion seriously you need to give more than one word answers and actually give reasons for your opinions, particularly when you accuse us so quickly and adamantly of being stupid. Anacdotes are one thing but I generally find they are exaggerated and could have other possible causes.

None of us are not saying that you do not have valid reasons for not taking the pill and believe that others should not BUT if you are not going to actually voice them it is a bit rude to say that we are stupid and to keep saying there are many things to consider when I can't speak for everyone else (BUT I am sure like me they have taken a similar approach) I did my research (both online and reading the pack warnings and instructions) and went to my GP who has my entire medical record from birth plus family history to make sure it would not affect other medical conditions of mine.

you're kidding, right? there is quite a lot of information in the booklet that you get with the pill that outlines the side effects of taking it in quite a lot of detail right through from bloating, spotting, weight gain through to increased migraines and increased chances of DVT and other conditions. Plus if you had a decent medical practitioner he/she should have discussed the side effects with you anyway. And I have always found that when I get my box despite the fact I have been on it for three years my pharmacist will always talk to me about possible side effects

I did the same. Its not uncommon for people not to read it though (I am not accusing you Freddie of not reading it), I told someone who had been on it for a while that they shouldn't be taking st johns wart as it reduces the pill effectiveness.

The other problem is the severity of side effects is a subjective thing, personally while a pill wont agree with some that doesn't mean it will effect others (unless we are talking about Liver failure and other serious side effects).

oh i totally get that. I hardly had any side effects at all while others put on a lot of weight and felt really sick at certain times. i just think it is ridiculous to say that most information advertises the benefits and not any of the problems when in my experience that's far from the truth

Still, if you know anything about medication, it's obvious that people can have previously unknown side effects. Everyone reacts differently to different chemicals. It is impossible for them to provide you information on all possible side effects for that very reason. I feel bad for you, but you can't make sweeping statements.

The fact is that there is significant amounts of research to suggest that the pill is indeed helpful with minimum side effects for most woman (as long as they are taking the right one for them).

You cannot label those who choose to take it as "stupid" just because it wasn't the right option for you.

Hey Cat, wherever you are, can you get your science on and find some information about switching between higher and lower dose pills? i've gone from yasmin to yaz (which from memory is going from 35mg to 20 but i could be wrong) because i was suffering mega withdrawal headaches. with yasmin i was having my period every 3 months but wasn't sure if my body would adjust straight away if i took inactive tablets after the first month

do you know anything about how quickly the body adjusts to taking new tablets including strains and strengths? for now i am taking yaz the same way i took yasmin because the thought of having 4 days to get my period instead of 7 scared me a bit. still waiting to see if it has effected my period in any way - the end of my 3 month gap is coming up in a couple of weeks..

I used to get withdrawal headaches, turns out that it ended up being a hormonal imbalance (thyroid hormone) and now that I am on the right meds its much better. Withdrawal headaches do suck but before the pill I used to get them frequently throught the month.

If the new pill doesn't help maybe a few blood tests could check if its something else.

Best of luck with the switch sorry I don't know much about those pills.
