The volume knob on my car stereo just broke, its cracked into 2 pieces and i cant glue it back together because some little pieces are broken off. Do you guys have any idea how i can replace it, cause now all i have is a little metal stick sticking out.

I doubt there's anything you can really do about that. Especially if it's an old mode.
1. Use it as is.
2. Buy a new identical unit and transfer the button
3. Buy an old different unit with similar button, and see if you can transfer.
4. Buy a new unit and throw out the old one.

I'd go for No.1 and after a while, No.4.

I'd add a #5 fabricate some kind of knob, possibly wire in a replacement on the steering wheel.

I'd also try to find some kind of substitute, or see if you can just "live with it". Later on you can always change your deck. Or if it's a newer model, try asking shops/retailers/suppliers/manufacturer for a replacement knob? (Maybe it's under warranty!)

BWAHAHA I'd imagine it's pretty hard to break a volume knob........ how'd you manage that???

Well for me it'll depend...

If the car is old... is the knob worth replacing? Are you going to keep the car or sell it anytime soon? Can you find a replacement knob? Or is buying a new deck the better option?

If the car is new... As seremify noted, warranty? But also note changing a deck in the new cars is such a bitch =.= BF just changed his deck and they had to start pulling apart the car bit by bit from the handbrake to the deck... and in the process broke a screwdriver from unclipping 9 clips...

Oh where was I up to... =S

Oh! Heh well... whichever is benefit >>> cost; then go for it =]

That stick is a variable pot. You can get knobs from electrical stores such as Jaycar. Worth a try.

I personally would just live with it until i could swipe one from the wreckers or one of the strathfield display units when no1 is looking.

Try and glue or stickytape it togther into the rough right shape, and then fill in the gaps from where bits are missing with hot glue, or fabricate some cheap peice of shit to do the job e.g in woodwork or with a peice of putty.

A bottle-cap, a file, and some plastic putty. Semi-permanent solutions are often the most permanent of them all.
