It means two things... one is the struggle of ones self to become a better muslim or whatever and the other is to right a wrong doing or to defend yourself.

saying that islam causes people to become terrorists is ridiculous. it's like saying that because someone works for the US postal service, they are going to go nuts and shoot people they work with.
i should preface this next statement by saying that i dont know a whole lot about islam, but i remember someone told me that the koran says that its a sin to commit suicide? is this true? and if this is true, doesnt that then make it almost impossible for terrorists to be acting in the name of their faith?

1983 wasnt it....a guy called ahmad asir.....i think....wat a legend...mr EaZy said:198(4?) when hizbullah rammed a truck with explosives into a marine base (killed 243 marines)
and a few years back when the uss cole was bombed.

now that can be true. i mean the way hostages are being taken in Iraq and executed has no basis in Islam. But in a middle -east survey which i saw on al-jazeera via SBS's dateline, only <30% of viewers supported such actions. So it can be said that these insurgents and others have gained rather limited support and sympathy from muslims in the middle east. They've gained such support on the basis that they are fighting - i dunno americans i guess.Not-That-Bright said:I'd say Islam isn't causing terrorism, but it is acting as a masque for those who wish to commit terrorism.
actually i read somewhere that israeli hostages captured by hezbollah were treated really well......they werent tortured and were fed......i feel sorry for the hezbollah men captured by israel and placed in the Khiam prison were the were tortured day and night.......that prison reminds me of auschwitzmr EaZy said:now that can be true. i mean the way hostages are being taken in Iraq and executed has no basis in Islam. these guys think they're fighting against corruption and occupation, but the truth is that its not up to them to form many small militant groups, they need a large group to do what Islam asks them to do. i would rather have saddam hussien in power than lots of these small groups trying to topple their corrupt government!
even in afghanistan- its ironic that the taliban actually brought peace to the country a few decades ago. Formerly hundreds of warlords had their own group and territory and fought each other.
so yeah, people are desperate to bring about a change around them, islam encourages this noble act, under specific conditions (like jou jou said: a religious figure of high authority [lots of followers] or even an islamic government.
i mean ask pvt jessica lych or even better Yvonne Ridley (captured by the taliban as a BBC reporter - Converted to islam last year ) they will tell u how well they were treated- the islamic way, these small bands of fighters arent reallydoing a good job of bringing peace and justice to the country and the (islamic ) world ought to know it .
and newspaper and radio station...........nows theres an islamic group u can be proud of.....mr EaZy said:hey, i like hizbullah, its not one of them rag tag small arms revolutionary groups
Hizbullah has done in lebanon what the UN has failed to do: provide homes, education, etc

and arent they dedicated to the creation of Islamic republic in Lebanon MEANING removal of all non-Islamic influences from Lebanon
oh brother..... you support this.
WHY?
i totally agree there, if they find christmas, the celebration of christ's birth offensive, they should go back to their non-christian home- seriously. they are ruining it for the rest of it, if i went to a musim country like say, Iran, and strutted about in their captial claiming their mosques(sp?) offended me and that i dont like the crappy music and singing i can hear in the city and sun down and how i think making women wear such restrictive clothing in such a hot country is a form of sexism then iam pretty sure i would ebe arrested, maybe even executed for what do they call it? heresy? blasphemy?tattoodguy said:its like....some....muslims think they can......denounce xmas and say its offenisve
