That assesments get moderated by the bos to suit your examination marks. Would've worked more on my assesments throughout the year. Damns. :)

Yeah it is capped but that doesn't mean it will scale you down immensely. I know plenty of people who did standard, received marks in the 80s and 90s and got extremely high uais and no they didn't do any 4 or 3 unit subjects. Fuck scaling :)
well i guess it depends on what kind of UAI you're aiming for.

Re: Things You Wish You Knew Before Starting Your HSC

1) subjects do matter: i regret taking modern history

2) maths subjects are easier than humanities (if you have an apitude for both - choose sciency/maths subjects. less essays)

3) organisation is everything

4) you cannot study without breaks. it doesn't work.

5) the school you go to/teachers you have - matter - more than ppl say, but not entirely.

6) you cannot do everything. trying to do so will quite quickly screw you up.

2) 2unit maths might be... :p. 4unit is a diff. story ;)

5) But it does to a significant extent.

6) I didn't get screwed up :p

Re: Things You Wish You Knew Before Starting Your HSC

I'm doing well in it.. but I wish I had known that Modern History was going to be such a massive and intense course...

probably wouldn't have dropped bio

and i wish i could have known that english would be a piece of shit, i.e. I used to like Frontline. Now, whenever I hear, 'hello I'm Mike Moore.. Welcome to Frontline..' I want to vomit.

ANYWAY good luck everyone for your upcoming HSC exams

2) my bad. i should have specified. but yes. i meant 2/3 unit maths. and mostly i was (in my head) referring to phyiscs - which i regret not doing in place of history.

5) i agree - thats why i said it matter. i put the end bit of "not entirely" so as to not freak out kids in schools that aren't ranked well... ;)

6) "everything" is very subjective here. your definition is no doubt todifferent to mine. mine is ridiculously unrealistic. and unnecessary. ;)

well standard english does scale pretty bad. Isn't it also capped?

i wish i'd realised that 13 units of work is not that different from 11. Then i would have taken one my subject and hopefully had a lot of fun.
really how so?
man this whole scaling thing sounds like ramblings of a hobo. i don't get it quite yet.

btw what do you mean by 'capped'?

Re: Things You Wish You Knew Before Starting Your HSC

The suggestion was that acheiving a Band 6 is not possible due to 'capping', however this is false, the only thing stopping you from getting a band 6 is your own lack of aptitude in the English subjects, which if you're doing standard, has shone through.

[EDIT]
For the nubs: Band 6 can be achieved.

Re: Things You Wish You Knew Before Starting Your HSC

1)Doing subjects you like is a shit idea. Do subjects you're good at. Silly me chose Legal, Modern and SORII. And 4 Unit Maths. Should Have done Eco/Chem/Physics/4U but they bored the shit out of me in Prelim. 2)Pissing off english teachers is fucking stupid. They're the ones marking the most subjective tests you'll ever do. 3)HSC humanities have very little to do with intelligence, It's just rote learning. 4)Marks mean nothing once ranks are determined. 5)You could do 4U english and jsut stoip turning up to Adv Eng. Only best 2 units of Eng have to count. 6)Teachers almost always do the Core topics first, I never realised that these are almost always the easiest topics examined. I.E. In Legal 2 core topics are worth 50 marks, they're piss easy. Similarly Modern and WWI. I put the most work in at the start and then died. 7) A couple of text books and the internet is far more effective at teaching humanities than a teacher. Maths not so much. 8)HSC year is the most inconvenient year to turn 18. Casino V Maths. Casino ALWAYS wins. 9) I really, really hat English. 10) Deadshits who put in enough effort will beat smart people.

Really? o_O I have a friend who does music II and music extension and he says the majority of his class likes music lessons

I guess for me, it'll be wishing I found out sooner that bio is recommended knowledge for engineering, whereas engineering studies is not >.<;

Really? o_O I find Frontline more entertaining than Blade Runner and definitely more than King Lear, so it's fine with me XD
