Get involved in a lot of extra-curricular activities and ace your SC.

lol, but isnt SC near the end of this year? Applications for selective school close at 31st July...i thought they wouldnt look at your SC?

extra-cirricular activites..i never understood what that was. Is that like debating?

you need to get good marks in your half yearlys. If a test is required to get into the school, then study for it. Its a bit too late to do extra curricular activities. Always place your good subject reports in front of the bad ones. Submit two reports. Write a letter to the school (one page long) addressing why you would like to go to the school.

i think my school, to get into year 11, you need to do an exam. Top 15 (varies every year due to number of students moving schools) of students doing test get in.

Subjects tested are science maths and english i think. Pretty certain about maths and english, not sure about science.

Extra-Co curricular activities includes debating.. It basically is like any activity which you represent the school in, whether it be in sport (team sport or individual), music (band, orchestra, play an instrument), Duke of Ed., social justice etc. , there's quite a long list.

That's asking too much isn't it?

I mean, with that, you can even get into James Ruse I reckon.

Well that's the only way there is. Also, get like lots of distinctions/high distinctions in those state competitions. They should help.

They just ask you questions like:
  • Why do you want to join our school?
  • What can you contribute to our school community?
  • What skills can you bring to our community?
  • What are your career aspirations?

In answering your question about availability of placements in Year 11, I know some selective schools such as Hurlstone Agricultural, open up a whole new class for new students, which is good for new entrants into the selective stream, but consider the fact that there are only about 24 people per class and you can figure the difficulty of getting into the class.

Just work hard, and try to do lots of extra-curriculum based activities like everyone has been saying.

It's not that hard getting into a selective school... you just have to present yourself well with a good report (preferably top 10 in everything - apart from PDHPE :p), do alot of extracurricular activities (peer support, Duke of Edinburgh, etc) and do well in the entrance exams if they have any. Concerning these entrance exams, you can't really study for them...

so true like the geo comp. My geo teacher was reading out so many great awards then there were like 6 participations, however, he called it the journey award :D
