Engineering is seriously terrible atm at USYD. I'm considering switching to maths/economics.

i mean u dont learn bout like the theories of relativity and stuff dealing with astrophysics, or do u get to learn that in aerospace engineering?
You do, as this is part of common physics for first year student.Whether you care/notice it at all is another question.

so the first session encompasses general physics related to engineering and the second session talks bout ur specific engineering type? man i hope i get into this lol
Well like I mentioned before, I do my physics subject with all the other engineering, adv science students, physics, radiation physics and all them students. It continues into next session too. Maybe it works differently for UNSW, I don't know I don't go there. But I thought I'd put my part in seeing as though I too am an engineering student.

As for your 60-70 average, aim a bit higher. try 70-80.

hey if i get a uai of like round 75-85 is there still a GOOD CHANCE that i'l get in to the b. eng. flex. first year at unsw coz i read that they have a flexible entry program or something? has anyone done that or gotten in thru flexible entry at any other uni for that matter?

As long as you go well in maths and physics you will give yourself a good chance if you dont get the UAI required. there are ways around it. ring up the uni and ask?

i made it in through FEAS with a UAI of 75 and a so-so interview imo.

so far its really great and im loving 3/4 of my subjects. math is a killer though, i enjoy it...but i suck at it D:

I did 2U math and still managed credits in all my math courses.

i really doubt aeronautical engineers would need to take into account relativistic factors with the design of aircraft.

aeronautical engineers, are essentially mechanical engineers with a specialisation in aircraft and flying things.

generally, (in terms of physics)- you'll probably need to be good at general newtonian mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics...etc

if you want to do astrophysics, then do a physics degree.

the only engineering discipline id think that'd be able to consider relativity practically would be your photonic/electrical engineeers.

If it helps, I did similar subjects to you.

I got 70's for Physics, Chemistry, Adv English, Japanese, Maths Ext 1, and 84 for 2U maths and I got 81 UAI.

i did 3 unit up till half yies and then only did 2 unit for hsc and im doing engineeering at unsw andam ot struggling, but have to work a bit harder

they cover whats reuired of 3 and 4 unit in maths in the first few weeks, if u can keep 4 unit then do cause it will be better that yuve seen it once

standard english, software design, 2 unit maths, ancient history and biology.

cant remember all my results at the top of my head, but for the exams they were generally high band 4 to mid band 5, for assessments they were generally between mid 4, low 5.

assessments lost me a good 5 UAI points according to SAM, but meh, still made it into the course.

i would think both of them (unsw and usyd) are quite capable in the science department, so i wouldnt say one is better than the other in this case

u shud also keep uts in mind. their engineering faculty is apparently good as well. better then usyds

unsw does have a better engineering faculty than usyd and uts (the faculty was ranked quite high in the world too). although, i wouldn't base my choice on that fact alone. usyd and unsw are both good unis that would give you as much chance to find a job as any other uni, so it all comes down to preferrance in most cases (e.g. transport, likeability of uni). usyd generally has a higher uai cutoff than unsw for everything tho, so you may in the end be limited by ur uai anyway.
