Hi Economists, Im just trying to do this essay question and would like to know if I am on the right track. I am forever indebted for your help. Thanks!

Here it is:

Outline the arguments for ecologically sustainable development and discuss the likely impacts of an increase in the rate of Australia's economic growth on the enviornment.

The Plan
Introduction:

Body:
1) the arguments for ESD:

  • explain what ESD is and why it is needed (topic sentence)
  • ESD needed for future generations to be able to cosume at a similar level to the current generation (intra generational equity)
  • ESD needed to maintan eco growth in economy (if environment not maintained/sustained then eco growth will actually fall)
  • ESD needed to protect Australian biodiversity and the quality of the Aust. environment
2) First side of likely impacts of an increase in the rate of Australia's economic growth on the environment

  • more eco growth means there is a higher use of resources and waste products (e.g. pollution). This puts more pressure on the Australian environment. Leads to degradation of the environment, lower biodiversity, lower intragenerational equity.
  • environmentalist argue that eco growth must be lowered in order for the environment to recover and achieve ESD

  • past eco growth has caused considerable damage to the environment
3) Other side of likely impacts of an increase in the rate of Australia's economic growth on the environment

  • economists argue that the damage to the environment is not an inevitable part of economic growth
  • Rather it is the government's inability to deal with these issues that has led to environmental degradation.
  • eco growth can still go on as long as governments gets over how costs should be distributed and how they have to act in the marketplace.

Conclusion:
