I watched Fallen Angels last night for the first time.
I must say, I don't think I liked it. I found it difficult to follow, and I found some of the characters incredibly annoying. It didn't have that superbly polished feel of In the Mood for Love, which is what I was hoping for.
There were many scenes (by themselves) that I thought were brilliant. One in particular when 'The Agent' was lying on the jukebox - just brilliant. Another towards the end when the same character sits in the noodlebar, and just stares into the rainy window when the fight's in the background. But I didn't feel all these great scenes worked together as a film.
I probably came in with high expectations, which wouldn't have helped me. In the Mood for Love is one of my all-time favourite films, and I expected something similar. And while I can tell the same filmmaker produced both films, I feel they're very different.
I'm keen on 2046 now. From what i've read, it's more like In the Mood for Love than Wong's previous work.
Oh, and I picked up the DVD from the videoshop (the one with Michele Reis on the cover), and the picture/sound quality is awful. It says "new digital transfer" on the cover, but it looks and sounds terrible.
