I'm going to do Che Guevara. Looking at the different sides of his personality, guerilla war leader, empathetic socialist revolutionary, the devil incarnate, and with which personality does his (blind) iconic legacy align itself with.

It shall be fun xD I love Che =)

Uhm, I think I might do the use of the Josef Mengele legend by traditionalists to hinder Holocaust revisionism.

That or - To what extent has Henry Kissinger influenced the rise of China as an emerging superpower.

I initially wanted to do something to do with the Cold War but had to change due to inability of doing somthing contained within the Modern History Syllabus. Instead I decided to do Oliver Cromwell and my question is: ‘How have varying contextual backgrounds contributed to changing interpretations of Cromwell over time?’. I'm pretty excited about History Extension but feeling overwhelmed from all the reading already. We got three books for the 'What is History' component, I have about 4 books to read for my project (at least I've decided on my historians) and then books to read for Modern, English, English Extension and everything else.
I'm pretty excited about doing Cromwell, it's the 350th anniversary of his death this year but still the prep work is starting to feel intense, especially as I'm leaving for Europe in like a week (excited but stressing).

god i feel so intimidated with all the samrt dudes. at first was thinking of doing how Karl Marxs communist manifesto influenced later communist societies, but it was way to broad, so going to do the Nazi Holocaust and both Germans and Allied sides views on it, and also past and present views
The Holocaust is really hard to do
a) it's been done to death
b) you've got to be really sensitive and really careful how you phrase ur sentances
c) there is so much information, it's a really broad subject.

also, everanoutsider, Ned Kelly is one of the core studies, I was told to steer clear of them to get better marks which was a real bummer b/c I wanted to do the legend of Simpson and his donkey .grrr.

I can't believe how many of you are doing historical people - I'm finding it really hard to think of good and original sources or get away from colonialism and doing a person is really hard - how r u going to include the key questions from BOS:
Who are the historians?
What are the purposes of history?
how has history been constructed and reported over time?
how have approaches to that construction changed?
I'm not bagging out ur ideas - good luck to you - but I am stuck because of those stupid questions! I really want to do something about the Taj Mahal, but i can't see it fulfilling those questions :(

good luck to everyone tho, I feel we're gonna need it.

You don't have to do a person but generally it is much easier as there is SO much wrong with biographical history. The questions are somewhat restricting (along with the 'No doing stuff from the syllabus' thing) but you can work around it. In regards to the Taj Mahal maybe you can have a look at changing views regarding its significance or varying exhibitions in regards to it but I don't exactly no much background so I wouldn't be much help. Generally you should find an area that has a conflict of opinion associated with it and look at why varying historians think that way. Remember that historiography is VITAL and will severely constrict your choices in terms of historians. You don't have to choose a person; you can choose an event, a museum and many other exciting things but I would recommend some background research before setting your heart on something. As a random question; have most people already handed in their proposals because mine was due in Term 4 and we were expected to have a pretty clear idea of what we were doing.

My topic is all about Marie Antoinette. Mainly focusing on portrayal in literature/media etc... Got the thumbs up when we gave in our first assessment task the proposal.

Just small hint guys.

This is about the study of historical writings and perspectives. NOT a study of the history itself. Make sure that when you construct your topic question, that it reflects your understanding of that.

Would you be allowed to do 'Appeasement' as it is one of the possible History Extension Case Studies? You would also need to be careful in regards to how much Hitler/Holocaust would overlap with the Germany National Study and/or Conflict in Europe study if you decide to do it. Your teacher may be lenient on the overlap though so I would recommend discussing your ideas with them.

I'm doing changing interpretations of homosexuality in the Hellenistic World, with focus on ancient (Plato etc), modern (Kenneth Dover) and postmodern-interdisciplinary (David Halperin, Cultural studies stuff) interpretations. Also accounting for the huge gaps in study in between.

And I am meant to be writing my proposal now and am procrastinating. Grr.

With the topic or with the proposal? You don't happen to be an expert of Greek homosexuality, do you?

Proposal's ok. I should really not do things the night before they're due though.
