I reckon you should try and learn stuff yourself, cause it stays in your memory longer, and your not going to have your teacher or tutor sitting with you in the HSC exam.
Exactly, people who have tutors think it will make the world of difference in their individual subjects, but it can sometimes back fire and cause students to slacken off, meaning their marks will drop.

That's what happened to me. So if you're thinking of getting tutoring, only start when u discover ur weakness; that way u can tackle the topic head on.

And you also save time and money too.

I noticed that a lot of my friends who had tutoring for individual subjects became slacker in class, were less attentive, and payed the price as a consequence

but dun people go to tutoring because they are struggling to do the homework or understand ... and if this is the case then tutoring does help ...

but if you are lazy then dun expect a high mark ... that just doesnt work ... whether you have tutoring or not ...

only had tutoring for business studies really, but it was cheap, my parents paid, and my tutor was my ex-boyfriend, which could have been dangerous, but it was all good. he was really good at business and helped me out a lot. i had a few sessions for maths back in year 11 when i was tryna cope with advanced maths but it wasnt regularly, just when i was struggling.

i think tutoring is well worth it, but only if you have someone that you can understand really well and learn heaps from.

I get maths tutoring (private) for 35/hr, and he comes to my house which is very convenient, although if I had my choice I wouldnt go but my parents insist on it. i reckon its a waste of money.

english I go to pre-uni in homebush coz the teacher is pretty good there, he actually has ways to improve your writing skills and exam technique which is always good, I like english though so I dont consider this a big hassle and I socialise with ppl so its not too bad

I dont recommend pre-uni for chem though coz the teacher aint that great and I believe chem is more about memorisin.

btw Has anyone ever been to prior education? I heard it was good, but boy is it expensive

i was going to go and i know people who went there ... it is very expensive ... but they literally force you to spend so many hours there working and going through their exercises and classes that you become good purely on the fact that you'll probably end up spending twice as much time on a subject there as anyone else in the state (slight exaggeration, but not much) ...

i had pvt maths tutoring for yr11/12 @ $40/hr 2 times a wk. my bro in yr 10 ('03) has had it since yr 9.
i tried pre uni for several eco lessons and found that they totally sucked (for me anyway). the standard of teaching was so lousy. the eco teacher didn't really teach, he constantly went off the subject and spoke about his personal life

Hmm, I did have a driving instructor though, that sort of constitutes some form of tutoring and I have to say that for $40 an hour it was a complete waste of money, he just talked on his mobile while I drove around, and occasionally he'd let me practice parking. I only did it to get my hours up and use his car for the test, cause no one else would let me use their car while on my l's.

hmm how come i got charged $52 (or was it $50?) per hour by Trent?? it def wasn't worth the money. the 1st instructor was a prick (then he quit).. the 2nd one a bit better.. sometimes we hardly covered anything significant in a lesson, it seemed as if they try to stretch everthing out for as long as possible to get teh max amount of fees.

hey does anyone know some good tutors for software design coz my teacher is bullshit...literally:p or is it better to go to summer schools and one off things like that for sdd rather than a weekly tutor?

edit: i also seem to be getting more lazier about it since i don't know how the course is usually taught and how fast u have to go etc.

I think my maths tutor's excellent. He checks up on what I've done in my school textbook and makes sure that I am ahead of the class. He will go through any questions I have and then he'll teach me a new topic to go on with. He will also make sure I'm *studying* meaning doing HSC papers etc. and sometimes he'll make a test for me and whilst I do that he'll go through my notebook to make sure I haven't skipped questions or whatever. And at the end of Jan he is holding a 3 hour exam at his place for all the people he teaches so we get a feel of the real thing.
